All 4 of those are fascinating. I like the inconspicuous natives. Thanks for sharing.

I have been traveling more and starting to get swamped with perennial seedlings. Otherwise doing wellπŸ˜„. πŸ’š

Great information on Pt Reyes. That is a beautiful area. I have had a bit of a love hate relationship with the Grindelia. I have a tall weedy species (camporum) that I would like to pull out but it blooms all year and the bees like it so πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. Yours looks like a well behaved ground cover 😁. πŸ’šπŸ’š

Do the pollinators like it?

I started some from seed over a year ago and have 12 inch plants. I have been trying to find a good picture of what they will look like in bloom and this is the best I have seen. Thanks for posting.

You saw some wonderful plants in the Eastern Sierras. Thanks for posting. I have about 15 different Phacelia but had to look up the Phacelia hydrophyloides. Love seeing new plants. πŸ’šπŸ’š

I have Eriogonum fasciculatum (straight species). They have gotten big. I don’t ever water them. They are such a great plant for pollinators this time of year. I’ll add photos.

Love that plant and beautiful butterfly. Tried growing the plant years ago. I will try again. I have more mini environments in my yard now so might be able to keep it alive. Thanks for another reminder of a great plant. πŸ’šπŸ©΅

I think they can be annual or biannual. I start my thistle from seed in the greenhouse in the fall then plant them in the ground in November and they bloom the first year. Maybe they are like the biannual artichokes that can be forced to bloom the first year with a short cold treatment.

Cirsium occidentale (Cobweb Thistle)
Beautiful native thistle that the native bees fight over.

Oh, thanks. You pay closer attention to yours. I hope you still get a good potato crop.

Why do you need the flowers? Are you saving seed? I haven’t even noticed the flowers on potato plants and I always get potatoes. So I’m not much help.

Mine is Agoseris grandiflora also. We probably both got the seed from Seedhunt. Nice plant and I love the big seed heads.

Do you know which native dandilion? I have Agoseris grandiflora. Yours looks diffferent. Looks like a nice plant. I like the foliage.

I am doing OK except for the horrid state of our nation. I seem to cycle through feeling furious, horrified and sad. I am so grateful that I have the yard and seed starting right now. I’ll join the crowds downtown this Saturday. Hope you and your wife are having a good summer.πŸ’š

That is an amazing plant. I have been watching for a seed offer of that for years. Even put in a serpentine rock garden just in case I ever acquired it. I would love to see it in person. Thanks for posting.
