The difference is that now they can be really blatant about politicking from the pulpit, which will actually turn off a lot of people who come to church to hear about Jesus, not politics.

It was pure fantasy that conservative churches weren't already telling congregants how to vote. Even without saying names, they've been telling people which issues matter (i.e. abortion). Pastors did this while citing the law as evidence for persecution from the government.

National pride is declining in America. And it's splitting by party lines, new Gallup polling shows A poll shows only 36% of Democrats say they’re β€œextremely” or β€œvery” proud to be American, reflecting a dramatic decline in national pride that's also clear among young people.

I guess I'm just confused about... what are we supposed to be proud about?

The Chan-Zuckerbergs stopped funding social causes. 400 kids lost their school. Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg’s retreat from funding social issues forced the closure of a school Chan opened for disadvantaged families in Silicon Valley.

Priscilla Chan’s decision to stop funding the school she opened to help struggling families shows the risks for communities reliant on wealthy private donors.

Threat in Your Medicine Cabinet: The FDA’s Gamble on America’s Drugs A ProPublica investigation found that for more than a decade, the FDA gave substandard factories banned from the United States a special pass to keep sending drugs to an unsuspecting public.

In 2022, inspectors described a β€œcascade of failure” at one foreign factory.

The FDA barred it from shipping drugs to the U.S. β€” then excused more than 20 drugs from the ban, despite risks to consumers.

It's super prevalent outside cities. I've always found it baffling. I personally stigmatize these folks, along with people who drive Hummers and SUVs. But I applaud efforts to get more people on board.

Rewatched Robocop 1987 for the first time since it came out. I had picked up on the strong satirical elements as a 7 year old. One thing I originally got wrong: James Woods was not the actor to play Robocop.

Republicans snuck an AI regulation BAN into the β€œBig Beautiful Bill.”

That means companies like Real Page can use AI to get around price fixing laws and RAISE YOUR RENT.

BUT this policy violates the Senate's budget rules.

I'm calling foul β€” and fighting back to reject it.

I'm old enough to remember republicans criticizing the affordable care act as having "death panels" because experts would weigh costs with human lives. Apparently the appropriate response would have been: so what? We're all going to die anyway!"

Deep cuts erode the foundations of US public health system, end progress, threaten worse to come Americans are losing an array of people and programs dedicated to keeping them healthy.

This was in the mail way back in January when the cuts started, but I'm glad AP is covering it to hopefully make more folks aware. For health researchers, Covid-19 highlighted major gaps in public health to address. But this is taking us back even further.

Prescient Warnings About Helene Didn’t Reach People in Harm’s Way. Here Are 5 Lessons for the Next Hurricane. After four months of reporting, ProPublica found that the warnings about Helene were eerily accurate. Yet, local residents remained largely unaware of the enormity of danger approaching as the storm…

#ICYMI: Unlike several nearby states, North Carolina does not require training for local emergency managers.

Yancey County’s emergency manager had taken the job seven years before Helene hit after a long Army career. Yet, he had no emergency management experience.

TLDR: Celgene, the company that owns the rights to revlimid, are a bunch of greedy fucks. This isn't about them recouping the costs of development, as it was already discovered. They just knew people dying of cancer would pay that much to not die.
