Been spending the last few months trying to have fewer cards that just sit in binders so I decided to curate my own vintage cube. Tried to build an experience that celebrates "Good Magic" even though it meant parting with some current cube darlings.

Yeah with most of the UB stuff I was happy to see it go (the initiative, etc) but it stung to lose Forth Eorlingas. Overall, I think the UB design space has been very complex so losing it has made the cube run more smoothly

Yeah I was talking to a friend about this, the footing is unequal from the start when one side gets to open with "So, you're a god" and the other side has to start with "So you need to chill out a little." Because they do need to chill out! But that's not a line that works online

Yeah when it comes to things like podcasts, I'd agree that it's about money and control of digital infrastructure. I've talked about this in other threads but it's tough to have a fair fight on a platform that can be easily manipulated into making our side look like joyless scolds

Yeah the guy wrote a whole article and then followed it up with a dumb tweet and now everyone's just sort of talking about the tweet which doesn't speak to an environment where people actually want to have a discussion about this topic

I think the ones that worry me more than the hard right stuff like Tate (I doubt too many Tate guys were choosing between right and left wing spaces) is the supposedly "apolitical" stuff that primes a lot of them to drift further to the right

Yeah I think there's zero doubt that they're worse spaces in the long run, I've never met someone who got sucked into them who didn't seem miserable (we knew a few of them lol), but they seem to have better onboarding

I had a big internal debate about this! I don’t feel like they’re narratively part of Magic but their role in the game’s history bridges the gap. I wound up keeping them because I feel like a vintage cube without bazaar, library, or karakas would feel incomplete but I’m keeping an eye on them

I don't really see a great path forward for writing online. The platforms do not incentivize meaningful interaction with a person's writing or ideas, everyone's just looking for a pithy headline and out of context screenshot they can blast out. It's like longform tweeting lmao

BlueSky is such a funny platform because it's so much better for sharing pieces of writing but people still don't really read them so you have to wrap it in the same social media ragebait that works everywhere else to get traction
