The only details these people care about in situations like this is the race and gender of the perpetrators

The reason they are fixated on those details is because they are bigots

Things we have to stop blaming for the actions of evil people:

- menopause
- PMS/menses
- psychosis
- dementia
- ADHD
- drugs
- alcohol
- prescriptions

None of these diagnoses make people evil. There is no drug that makes people evil. At most, some of these things can make people less inhibited.

if you build homes that is intentionally affordable for middle incomes, you'll also bring market rents down. trickle-up economics over the trickle-down logic of building luxury condos with the hopes it'll bring down rents in the older buildings (many of which have been demolished for the condos)

04.02.2026 21:22 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I actually do think they are related. when rents go up, so does homelessness. and the thing about public investment in housing is it doesn't need to only be for the lowest incomes. that should be the priority, but you can have a public and social housing system for a variety of income levels

04.02.2026 21:19 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

it's wild how a building as big as the BC Supreme Court in downtown Vancouver, with so many people passing through it, can have one (1) public source of drinking water, and it currently does not have water

04.02.2026 20:26 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 12    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

yeah, sorry "supply exclusively" was the wrong term โ€” what I'm talking more about is the argument that seems nearly exclusively focused on market housing

04.02.2026 18:26 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

vacancy rates are clearly a driver of rents, but the changes are weighted in favour of landlords. renters can make little gains here and there, but the house always wins. and what does the community lose when we deregulate housing for those little gains?

04.02.2026 18:23 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

but if you look at Montreal, Sherbrooke, London, Winnipeg and Halifax, even a long period with relatively high vacancy rates, the declines in rent are minor, whereas declines in vacancy rates are met with large spikes in rent

04.02.2026 18:21 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

part of my issue with the exclusively supply argument is that it rarely differentiates types of supply, it just pushes whatever supply developers are offering, which is similarly overly simplistic

04.02.2026 18:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I agree the CCPA article is overly simplistic, but what this seems to show is that it's rare for prices to ever actually come down in any meaningful way based on vacancy rates alone

They also take a lot of pride in menacing school patrols. Parents who are outside in hi-viz vests are seen as ideological opponents. If they see patrols, they circle the schools. They also often conspicuously photograph parents to try and intimidate them in the same way they do rapid responders.

this just doesn't make sense to me. obviously if that's what's happening, there should be separated bike lanes, but it's truly bizarre to me that people would rather risk their safety and ride in a crazy busy street than ride on a nice route one block over
