Decades of consulting with law firm leaders have taught me this:
π‘ It's not just about strategy: it's about people, execution & relationships.
In this post, I share 5 big lessons from the firms that thrive vs. those that stall.

π Most law firms track hours, rates, and realization.
But the real profit drivers? Theyβre hiding in plain sight.
From leverage to culture, hereβs what top-performing firms focus on:

β¦And itβs happening whether you like it or not. Itβs time to plan accordingly.
16.05.2025 13:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If not, your firm is going to be squeezed out as larger firms with advanced AI platforms are going to poach your best people and clients. This is all happening with increasing speed, and many partners have their heads in the sand as they hope this AI βgimmickβ passes by. Itβs not. Itβs here.
16.05.2025 13:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The development of AI-driven law firms should be sending shudders down the backs of all law firm partners. This development is just the start of a massive overhaul of the legal industry. Firms need to quickly figure out a roadmap on how to use AI
successfully and profitably.
Beautiful!
16.05.2025 13:34 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Law firm leaders: AI isnβt coming β itβs already here.
5 AI trends you canβt afford to ignore: Workflow automation, rising client expectations, ethics & AI governance, legal-specific tools, and pressure on hourly billing. See blog post attached for details.
lawprofitability.com/2025/05/12/a...
I would tend to agree on the bi-modal trend. As AI really gains traction, many more midsized firms will be squeezed out, with their lawyers either joining big firms or setting up shop for themselves.
16.05.2025 04:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Human rainmakers will still be needed for business development and will be even more highly prized than now. AI will handle much of the routine marketing functions, blog articles, client onboarding etc. however.
16.05.2025 04:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The end result will be fewer lawyers, fewer equity partners and smaller firms by lawyer count. The winning firms will be very profitable using extremely high AI/tech leverage.
16.05.2025 04:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Partners who arenβt bringing in work will not be needed as AI will be doing much of their current legal work. Rainmakers will be paid even more, and will force out those who arenβt.
16.05.2025 04:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I would suggest that AI will replace those partners who are doing work that can be done by associate lawyers or AI.
