Inside the Clunky Elections to Control Pennsylvania's Supreme Court - Bolts The GOP is making an expensive push to end Democrats’ majority on a court at the center of election lawsuits, sparking a fledging campaign season with little precedent or template.

“I think every election, including retention elections, going forward, we’ll see a huge influx of spending and politicking. And we’re going to have to do this again in a couple years.”

Dispatch from Pennsylvania on a highly unusual state Supreme Court election—one of the few most consequential matters on the ballot anywhere in the country next month. New from me in @boltsmag.org: boltsmag.org/pennsylvania...

“Even the federal judiciary's own climate survey revealed at least 106 law clerks were mistreated in 2023 — meaning as many as 106 judges committed actionable misconduct that year — yet just 3 clerks filed complaints in 2023.” @alizashatzman.bsky.social in GovTrack 👇

@thelap.bsky.social created #accountability through #transparency: there's nothing imperious judges hate more than negative feedback they cannot see, dispute, or silence clerks from sharing through threats of retaliation.

Federal Judiciary Says ‘F.U.’ To Public Defender In A Win For … Justice? - Above the Law Why are judges still above the law?

The federal courts have effectively chilled judicial misconduct complaints by making it nearly impossible for employees to safely file them: they boast about low complaint numbers while actively suppressing them, @alizashatzman.bsky.social in @abovethelaw.com .

Refusing to implement workplace reforms is part of a concerted effort by the federal judiciary to maintain the broken status quo + shield abusive judges from accountability, I argue in @abovethelaw.com .

Ex-public defender loses appeal in sexual harassment case against US judiciary A federal appeals court on Friday rejected a bid by a former public defender in North Carolina to overturn her trial loss in a lawsuit alleging U.S. federal judiciary officials mishandled a sexual harassment complaint she lodged against her supervisor.

The federal judiciary cannot “self police” on workplace misconduct.

There’s no reason 30K judiciary employees - incl permanent staff, public defenders, + law clerks - are exempt from TitleVII + all federal anti discrim laws. ‼️

Drumbeat for reform grows louder.

Federal judges are above the law, exempt from Title VII + all federal anti-discrimination laws, and *rarely* disciplined for misconduct, I argue in @abovethelaw.com.

Congress must act. Members don’t have to wait until they’re in the majority + there’s a new president; those are just excuses.

Reassigning Judicial Law Clerks Is A Band-Aid Over A Bullet Hole - Above the Law We cannot allow the courts to quietly reassign clerks year after year while shielding judges from accountability.

‼️2 law clerks were reassigned through 2026 to address a “workplace conduct issue.”

We cannot allow the judiciary to quietly reassign clerks year after year while failing to solve systemic issues that necessitate these reassignments, I argue in @abovethelaw.com .

Creating Judicial Accountability Where Before There Was None - Above the Law So, you want to clerk -- how will you avoid judges who harass their clerks?

It’s not that all judges are bad—but the bad ones are shielded by colleagues from #accountability.

In @abovethelaw.com , why students + clerks should participate in @thelap.bsky.social nationwide transparency effort. 👇
