Johnson stresses Congress’s power over courts: ‘Desperate times call for desperate measures’ Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Tuesday drew attention to Congress’s power over the federal judiciary as Republicans plot how to legislatively channel their outrage over district judges who have bl…

The Speaker of the House is a fascist. Full stop. He is floating eliminating federal courts bc they are upholding the Constitution. This is outright authoritarianism. Call your members of Congress right now. They need to fear the voters more than Trump. 202 224 3121

We’re four years away from another presidential election and Trump is already laying the groundwork to make it a sham election to rival Russia’s.

Once again I ask:

Do you get it yet, law firms?

These orders aren’t isolated threats to Covington or Perkins or Jenner.

They’re existential threats to the independence of the legal profession.

You’re a fool if you think you won’t be next.

Say something. Do something.

Ill fit for the moment. In many respects America has been a a dead man walking for a decade at least and Trump and was simply the populist able to capture an aggrieved society. The Maga movement has then be coopted by Musk/ butterfly revolution and heritage fund p2025. Extreme right revolutionaries

Shouldn't be surprised or shocked that the supposed elite in defence of the constitution and democracy capitulated so quickly. A classic case of empire eating itself as anti social traits prospered under good times. Cowardice a virtue, courage a handicap to profit and self enrichment thus an elite

I compare it to the collapse of any regime when that "no clothes" moment occurs. The speed at which US Afghanistan and Assad Syria collapsed exposed they were paper tigers.I sense US democracy may be going through that experience where everyone finally realises it hasn't been one for a long time and

American civil society is full of abject cowards, that is the issue. The government is a mafia state but it is winning because most American elite institutions are devoid of anything resembling integrity and are folding rather than stand on principles that were little more than marketing.

Tesla Takedown | Take action at Tesla showrooms everywhere. The stakes couldn’t be higher. No one is coming to save us—not politicians, not the media.

Take one look at these pathetic blubbering babies, then go to TeslaTakedown.com and find the Tesla protest in your area. I promise you, there is nothing like the feeling that you had a little part in making these pathetic losers flail about in impotent rage. The high lasts all week! #TeslaTakedown

The reason Trump is threatening to violate our basic rights is because he has no answer to mass collective action.

The lesson: our strength is in our numbers.

It is more important than ever for us to show that we have the numbers and they are growing. When we stand together, they have nothing.

The wealthiest man in the world has fully purchased the federal government of the United States. This is one of the most extraordinary crises in the history of this country and you need to ask whether your elected representatives are acting like it.

What I’m reading:

“Owned: How Tech Billionaires on The Right Bought The Loudest Voices On The Left” by @eoinhiggins.bsky.social

A stunning exposé about the power of tech money to corrupt.

Anyone else reading and wanna compare notes?

Reminds me of post 9/11 when hysteria of Arabian culture spread across US. Anyone reading or speaking Arabic was accused of being a Taliban terrorist. These policies, implemented by prejudiced individuals, will of course result in perversion of justice and mistaken identities.

6/🧵 When judges across the ideological spectrum reach similar legal conclusions about attacks on our Constitution, we should see it for what it is: a flashing warning sign that we are facing a clear and present danger to our democratic and constitutional order.

This is nonsense. A district court decision holds just as much legal weight as a Supreme Court decision. The only difference is the district court’s ruling is appealable. But until you WIN an appeal a district court’s decision binds all parties, including the executive branch.

Woke up this morning full of a particular kind of rage at the fact that that Dems knew this was coming. They knew the risk was there for years. They know what is unfolding now, and are failing at every turn to stop it, or even to effectively alert people to the danger so we can stop it ourselves.

The thing is, we know what is required to stop authoritarian takeovers. Historians, political scientists have been screaming what we must do. Last night's town hall shows the people are demanding leaders to organize and mobilize the people to take the necessary actions. Who is leading??
