Most people only want folks to entertain or benefit from them without a single thought and tbh I'm finding more and more of that behavior from folks online. Folks don't know what it means to be friends with others anymore. But maybe that's old age/lived experiences talking on my account.

I don't consider that mean at all nor are you being mean. You're communicating how you view and value your friendships, most people don't do that.
