Your relationship is already damaged. No European will trust the US for a long long time. It takes days/weeks to break up a relationship. It takes decades to build up trust.

Europe will slowly (its Europe) find its own path, and US will not be part of is.

Spending money on the military in the current situation is only a bad idea if you think dependency of the US is better for your country and people in the long run. I predict dependency means more privitisation, more power to the rich and weakening of your democracy. Specially when outside the EU.

I love when Im told that I dont get the logic of an argument because Im stupid. By experience most of the time the logic turns out not to be so logical after all.
