03.11.2025 00:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The sad thing is there are people I've known most of my life who I never imagined could be the hateful people they are today. Some believe this crap. They believe anything Trump tells them; anything they see on Fox News or any crap like this they see on Facebook. And call themselves Christians.

This is part of the devastation.

It was incredible. I remember as I was driving home that day there was water over the road in one low spot a couple of miles from my house, but until the next morning I had no idea. They had to take some friends who lived on the other side of town (next to the drive-in that was wiped out) from...β¬οΈ

Tuesday will be 40 years since the great West Virginia flood of 1985. The floods devastated most of North Central West Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle. I was down on Lower Cheat that day. Had I been there an hour longer I'd have been swept away.

Just to add to that, browsing through Netflix I found very little from the 20th Century. Nearly all the films they do have (and it pales in comparison to HBO Max) seem to be pretty new.
02.11.2025 15:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0...really worth it for me. I have so many other choices that give me lots of sports, first-run movies from theaters and significant film libraries. I can find a lot more on Tubi that's for me than on Netflix.
02.11.2025 15:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm not too much of a TV series guy and I"m pretty picky about which ones I do watch, so I prefer better film libraries than Netflix has. I did watch the first season of Russian Doll (because Natasha Lyonne was in it) and I know there are a few others I'd enjoy if I put the time in, but it's not...β¬οΈ
02.11.2025 15:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0π² Dang, you are a good moviegoer! The truth is, individual theaters make very little on ticket sales. Usually 10-15% or so. Maybe 25% at most. We're talking a couple of bucks for a full price ticket. They depend largely on those ridiculously overpriced concessions to stay in business.
02.11.2025 15:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I like the concept of Stone vs. Plemons. π
02.11.2025 15:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Cool. I may try to pop over the Virginia Beach to see it, especially if Cinemark doesn't schedule it in next week. I would always, of course, expect weirdness from Yorgos. π
02.11.2025 14:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I saw it on the big screen again back in the early 10s (that sounds weird) during the Cinemark Classic Film Series run. One of only a handful I'd already seen on the big screen that I bothered with. It's so much fun. Thought about going for this and maybe I'll still pop in on Tuesday or Wednesday.
02.11.2025 13:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0...and pick out a few other things to watch, but I'm generally anti-Netflix. The only time I ever subscribed was last December for the Christmas NFL games, which ended up sucking. π
02.11.2025 13:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So he's hoping they'll become more cinema friendly. But basically they're just an entertainment factory with tons of content of varying quality.
I hope Sony moves elsewhere when their deal is up. I've never seen much there to interest me. I'll take it for a month to see the LInklater film... β¬οΈ
Campea was talking about Netflix the other day and saying he really likes a lot of their original TV series, but that 99% of the movies they produce for themselves are terrible. I guess they decided to put that KPop movie or whatever in theaters after it had already streamed and it did very well. β¬οΈ
02.11.2025 13:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0...make them money in these post-pandemic cinema doldrums. They can't cater to me. I don't even buy popcorn and stuff from them. Just a single senior discount movie ticket. π
02.11.2025 13:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There has been an awful lot of that stuff lately. I just wish they'd dedicate on theater to the smaller films such as Blue Moon and Bugonia. I always had to go to Virginia Beach or to the Naro in downtown Norfolk for certain films, but Cinemark had a few. I guess they have to show what will...
02.11.2025 13:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0π I guess that's going to have to go on the TARDIS bucket list. π

...and I think Nouvelle Vague moves to Netflix on Nov. 14. Two weeks. Just a few theaters. This is why I hate Netflix. They would be happy if the entire theater system died and all people could do is stream movies.
I'm fearful of the news they may be favorites to buy Warner Brothers.
Nouvelle Vague and Frankenstein are both Netflix films. Netflix hates cinema. They've only put these films in theaters to qualify for Oscar nominations and you only have to do that in New York and L.A., so they're really only in a handful of theaters. Frankenstein is already streaming on Netflix...β¬οΈ

But I guess I'll probably see Predator: Badlands next week.
This weekend they have a Japanese anime thing called Chainsaw Man, something from Korea called G-Dragon, KPop Demon Hunters Sing-a-Long, Stitch Head, ParaNorman and, of course, Oracles of God: The Story of the New Testament. Along with holdovers Springsteen, Good Fortune, Shelby Oaks, and...β¬οΈ
01.11.2025 16:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, one thing I've noticed about Cinemark is that they always get those what I call "Christsploitation" flicks from studios that pay to get them in theaters for a specific audience. I guess there's not enough interest in the smaller independent films. They get some weird stuff though. β¬οΈ
01.11.2025 16:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I may be a "big city liberal" now, but I was born and raised in a small town in the mountains of West Virginia. 01.11.2025 14:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That's great that your local one is doing so well. Let me know what you think if you see Bugonia. It's not at my Cinemark (of course), but it is playing at the Regals in Virginia Beach and Suffolk. I may try to work it in next week.
I shared Christy & Alonso's review of Nouvelle Vague. They loved it.
