“And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.”-Nemik, 5 BBY

Harvard hired a researcher to uncover its ties to slavery. He says the results cost him his job: ‘We found too many slaves’ When the extent of the university’s involvement with slavery was unearthed, a scholar tracking descendants of enslaved workers was suddenly fired

“At one point the fear was expressed that if we found too many descendants [of slavery], it would bankrupt the university.”

'Sinners' Puts 'Truth on Screen' For The Mississippi Choctaws For many Mississippi Choctaws, “Sinners” is the first time they've heard their language and seen their culture accurately portrayed on screen.

The blockbuster horror film "Sinners" features the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians in a short, impactful scene. For some Choctaw, it is the first time they've heard their language and seen their culture accurately portrayed on screen.

I’ve told the story many times. Now @katemasur.bsky.social and I have filed it in federal court: Free Black Americans were first to recognize BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP in the US. When denied it, they fought to secure it. They show us what the 14th Amendment meant and what it meant to live without it.

An engraving of a head-and-shoulders portrait of an African American woman (Frances Ellen Watkins Harper) in three-quarters profile. Wearing traveling clothes and her hair gathered in her signature chignon, she looks with calm determination to the viewer’s left. Originally in William Still's 1872 book The Underground Rail Road.

‘The Wheel Of Time’ Canceled By Prime Video After 3 Seasons Prime Video will not be renewing The Wheel of Time for a fourth season.

Well that’s that then. I had nuff problems with this show, but it had some standout moments. At least I got to see a visually stunning walk through the rings at Rhuidean and visions of the Breaking and the Age of Legends. Will be grateful for that.

Decolonizing the Whitewashed World of Caribbean Rum From its colonialist origins to its modern-day social injustices, the rum industry has been exploitative to those on whose backs the industry was built. These are the changes needed now.

As that plantation burns, can't help thinking of "rum tours" on "estates" a bit further south...

“I am shocke’d at the purchase of slaves, and fear those who buy them and sell them are knaves... I pity them greatly, but I must be mum, for how could we do without sugar and rum?"-W. Cowper, 1788
