This is absolutely true for ICE agents, and I have no empathy for them. This is not the case for the National Guard - "quitting", i.e. AWOL, prior to the end of their service term has serious long-term consequences, up to and including state prosecution.

No, we don’t. First, they have no choice and the consequences are very high for refusing orders - let's save that for when they are told to shoot citizens, no? Second it's strategically a terrible idea - plays right into the right's messaging about lefties hating the troops.

As a German political scientist who used to live in the US I cannot say how deeply disturbing it is to see these masked ICE goons dragging people off the streets, and the GOP building up this massive secret police force. What a shameful moment in history this is.

Please let me know if I'm missing something. But in any case, it's important to note that the new concentration camp in Florida meets both definitions.
