I.T. guy, writer, grumpy archivist, actually has a history hat May ramble about history, railroads, greyhounds, kayaks, science, fiction, gaming, and combinations thereof.
I'm looking up subscription services right now! It was great!
25.02.2026 02:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I had the subject of the essay, but wooboy did I miss the author.
22.02.2026 14:41 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Sure why not, I already tap danced into this minefield itβll be an even better story when I have to go explain to the board of directors how I accidentally insulted TDOT. They love it when I do that.
20.02.2026 22:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So Iβm here as the goofy train history guy because @betsyphillips.bsky.social tagged me, and you have arrived with what I suspect is the full might of civil engineering behind you. Iβm not actually of any mind to challenge the knowledge youβre bringing. itβs not worth the (choo choo) smoke.
20.02.2026 22:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Rail and highways are both important elements of a healthy multi-modal transportation design for communities and regions!
And highways are why I canβt take a train in Nashville to anywhere, so, kind of a mixed bag of a reality.
Wait, are we supposed to be fighting?
Early morning writing session showed me a path to land the thing I'm working on with a coherent theme. 24 new words plus a note to myself, and suddenly I feel like I have a clue. Much gratitude to @bernietheflumph.bsky.social for the magic feather for my impostor syndrome.
18.02.2026 13:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Not to fed post, but does America need an infrastructure plan to have enough lampposts for the coming era?
14.02.2026 20:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Maybe at least a lettermanβs jacket?
13.02.2026 23:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, no, I know. It's just that if it were accidentally misplaced from the headline the story would imply less trauma for the niece. It was more of a prayer for her sake than a lament for grammar.
13.02.2026 13:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Pat, Iβve got plenty of vowels, for everyoneβs sake, can I buy a comma?
13.02.2026 04:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, Zen like calm while we pitch a catfish onto the ice.

10.02.2026 13:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Bluesky has certainly added to my TBR pile in unexpected and delightful ways, with more topics and more authors that I would never have discovered otherwise.
Also, I now have two TBR piles because of the significant expansion and risk of structural collapse.
I am not, generally, on the side of entitlement giving what-for to the help, but in this case, I'm not going to protest too loud.
02.02.2026 03:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Imagine future archaeologists digging through meters of, ahem, accumulations, only to finally discover the tombstone was altered to include the inscription "This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed man is commemorated here... nothing valued is here... the line forms on the left"
29.01.2026 00:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0βAnd this is our new child, Crutchfield Propter, or Crutch Prop for short. He will definitely grow up not needing extensive therapy.β
That never backfires.
Who's the audience, there? Everybody else, or just his wife?
27.01.2026 13:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I bought it on the ice with the hound a few hours ago, tell them both to learn the lesson and knock it off.
27.01.2026 03:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I appreciate that your mom has a decorative bishop's mitre for a (literal) nightcap.
26.01.2026 14:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You should definitely prepare lunch now, yes.
25.01.2026 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We have more layers of caffeine redundancies planning than we have for heat. Our thinking is with caffeine we can come up with additional plans for heat.
25.01.2026 14:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Woke up to the sound of limbs falling.
25.01.2026 12:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0That does sound like crimes of financial mismanagement committed by a gentleman about whom we donβt want to speak too plainly, yeah.
22.01.2026 15:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What era are we talking here?
22.01.2026 14:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"Paul was too religious" is not precisely the first item on the list when I think of "potential flaws of the saints," but hey, what do I know.
20.01.2026 02:01 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How long?
Not Long.
Please read the whole thing, and know that the arc of the moral universe only bends towards justice because many people across many years have put their bodies against it and pushed so that it points to justice.
kinginstitute.stanford.edu/our-god-marc...
How long? Not long, because:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
How long? Not long, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.
20.01.2026 01:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How long? Not long:
Truth forever on the scaffold,
Wrong forever on the throne,
Yet that scaffold sways the future,
And, behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow,
Keeping watch above his own.
