15% expected for now on both, but Trump pulled a figure of 250% out of his ass today for pharma ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐
Who knows where we'll all end up.
What's with all the listeria news? Is RTร just reporting everything because of the one big issue one recently, or is something actually going on?
Has the been a real upsurge in recalls?

And sadly, the deliberate "dangerous foreigners" narrative is what's making some people afraid of the city when the reality is migrants are more likely to be the victim than the perpetrator.

I like London a lot. Never feel unsafe. Mind you I know the parts I visit well. And there's loads of it I've never been to.

Trump hates the EU. Humiliating imposition of a one way deal, giving a (marginally) better deal to the UK, all parts of a plan to weaken the blocs credibility. The EU hadn't much choice this time but it needs to toughen up and become more self sufficient.

I agree with you. I'm not happy but I can't think how we could have done any better, for now at least.
The priority now for the EU and especially Ireland should be to reduce our dependence on the US, and any single country for that matter. Not just walk away. We set a pace that suits us.
I have to hope the EU is playing the long game.
27.07.2025 20:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The agreed investments and purchases are nothing.
$600bn EU investment in the US is 4-5 years of normal fdi, so nothing there.
Buying $750bn of military equipment was likely happening anyway.
The big loss for the US will be long term EU plans to reduce dependence on America.
Always a tradeoff. We might be strong enough but is it worth the trouble? I don't know the answer but maybe the EU has calculated the cost of the 15% tariff and considered it the best option. Relative to other "deals" the US has done it's OK. It gives relative advantage to EU exporters?
27.07.2025 20:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Premature to celebrate? Do we even know yet where pharma and semiconductors will end up?
27.07.2025 20:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0He might. And his demands will have to be considered again. One has to hope there are some red lines somewhere.
They will presumably be gauging member states and the popular response to this round before deciding where those lines are.
