Yet another reminder that in an aspiring authoritarian government, you should never rely on online document as definitive sources.

Time series graph showing the duration of longest heatwave event in Sodankylä Tähtelä. The values range generally between 0 and 14, but in 2025 the heatwave has now lasted for 26 days.
The heatwave in Sodankylä has now lasted for 26 days.
This is probably not only the longest heatwave in Lapland, but also the longest heatwave ever observed in Finland.
Note that here a heatwave is defined with 3 consecutive days above 90th percentile, which is scientifically robust definition.

Wow, that is quite a clever deception to downplay sea-level rise in the DOE climate report.
You have to read the vertical axis label in their graph and understand what “trailing trend” means.
StatisticianTamino explains it nicely in his blog.

#Luomutuotanto valitettavasti vähenee Suomessa. yle.fi/a/74-20175218
Tämä on huono uutinen, sillä #luomu on yksi hyvä keino parantaa #luonnonmonimuotoisuus -arvoja ja #huoltoturva a. Nykyään on vaikea löytää esim. luomuleipää kaupasta. EU:n tavoite on nostaa luomutuotannon osuus 25% 2030 mennessä.
Inspired by @ketilisaksen.bsky.social post, I did the same analysis for Finland.
In terms of 14-day average temperatures, the 2025 heatwave in Finland did not quite surpass the well-known 1972 and 2018 heatwaves.
This is based on 10 km gridded observations.
Our article “What do we know about the state of European seas?” is now out in @consletters.bsky.social. In this study, we used all available #MSFD assessments to unveil the status of European Seas. @drangelborja.bsky.social @skatsanevakis.bsky.social

A list of daily maximum temperatures in Finland during July-August 2025. The 22-day heatwave is highlighted with red.
The record-long streak of 30 °C in Finland finally ended yesterday. The outcome was an impressive 22 consecutive 30-degree days between 12 July and 2 August.

Thank you! Do you know, if anybody has translated these to estimated cost changes? (I'm looking at what could the prices of commodity crops be in 2050.) There seems to be demand going up and supply going down. Might be a big change for ag.
04.08.2025 10:05 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0August 1, 2025 AMERICAN ECONOMIC ASSOCIATION Committee on Economic Statistics and Committee on Government Relations Statement from the American Economic Association on the Dismissal of the BLS Commissioner Leaders of the American Economic Association express their grave concern over the dismissal of the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) earlier today. The independence of the federal statistical agencies is essential to the proper functioning of a modern economy. Accurate, timely, and impartial statistics are the foundation upon which households, businesses, and policymakers make critical decisions. Undermining the independence or credibility of these agencies threatens the integrity of the information that markets, institutions, and the public rely on every day. Measuring the vast and dynamic U.S. economy in real time is inherently challenging. It is standard practice for statistical estimates to be revised as more complete and higher-quality data become available. These revisions reflect the commitment of statistical agencies to accuracy, transparency, and methodological rigor-not failure or bias. The BLS has long had a well-deserved reputation for professional excellence and nonpartisan integrity. Safeguarding this tradition is vital for the continued health of the U.S. economy and public trust in our institutions. We call upon elected officials to respect and preserve the independence of the nation's statistical infrastructure.
