The problem with the word is that it is a euphemism - it's a way to get around the truth. It's a weak word. These are things good writers avoid. We are talking about literature here, not some social media post.

Nobody likes a traffic crash, but the repairs and hospital bills contribute to GDP.

Stocks are institutional investors. Pensions, venture capital, etc. All controlled by a very small number of people who care only about the money, not the product.

None of that is legitimate mainstream preference.
