It's a little more than just the mouth, but Gaiking's "face open" beat it by a couple years!

It is a fun gimmick, though. It's not easy to make something as toyetic as a 70s robot look scary, but there were a few solid attempts.

This is SO cool. Like 10-15 years ago, someone realized that the Sigma arena and Magna Centipede's stage were actually the same (not just in appearance) and speculated you could end the game with a clip through the floor. I'm shocked it's actually possible now! Such an awesome development.
