I'm all for leaving twitter, but if I could increase my work's user base by 1%, that would be massive, and easily worth months of my time.

09.07.2025 22:14 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Agreed. There's also the national unity angle. Maybe Pierre doesn't deserve it. But why stoke division further than we already are?
I was happy to see Carney signal he'd expedite a byelection if that's what they want. Letting PP stay is a similar gesture of good will at a time we need to be united.
Just some cool and normal post-election far right extremism in Toronto. Everything is great.
04.05.2025 12:03 — 👍 22 🔁 5 💬 7 📌 1In May 2024, X said it was “proud to fund a lawsuit filed by Dr. Matt Strauss” against Queen's and said it supported Strauss's “efforts to vindicate his free speech rights without fear of unfair retaliation!” In response Strauss tweeted, if professors are not free to criticize government policy, “it ceases to be a university and becomes a political club. I will fight for this principle in every available arena,” he wrote. “Thanks to @X, @elonmusk and @CPC_HQ for fighting with me!”
However, last week Strauss told me, while he appreciated the moral support, neither he nor his lawyers took any money from X, from Musk or from any of Musk's companies. “My lawsuit is 100 per cent funded by me, from money I have earned as a physician and professor in our public healthcare system. I have no other sources of income,” he said in an emailed statement.
So nearly 1 full year after Matt Strauss publicly thanked Elon Musk for funding his lawsuit against Queen's, he finally decided to clarify that he was giving thanks for "moral support" only.
So... why wait that long to deny taking money from Musk?
The Ontario government is on the verge of repealing the Endangered Species act:

21.04.2025 21:30 — 👍 1 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0I've seen this compared to other acts of civil disobedience. But in other cases the act itself somehow furthers the cause.
E.g red paint on the statue raises awareness of past atrocities.
In this case the act.. Makes it harder for people to vote? That's the exact opposite of the goal. Do better.
"I have received $0 from Elon Musk" answers nothing. His lawyers would have received the payment(s) for one. X would have sent the payment(s) for another.
His lawsuit is ongoing, is he *still* receiving financial aid? So many questions that need some investigative journalism.

During the Kitchener South-Hespeler debate, CPC candidate Matt Strauss said "I have received $0 from Elon Musk.”
While that's probably technically true, my follow-up to him is:
How much have your lawyers received from X?

As advanced polls open, all I can think about when it comes to this stunt is an elderly person or maybe someone who isn't super informed being really confused and overwhelmed by this ballot.
Your advocacy shouldn't come at the expense of the accessibility of our elections. I think this sucks tbh
No argument here! Greens shouldn't have mislead the commission, and commission should have dropped them as soon as the candidate list was finalized. Egg on both their faces.
17.04.2025 04:14 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Greens shouldn't have been invited in the first place, but commission allowed it on a technicality. Then they changed their mind due to pushback. My point is kicking them out same day is very unprofessional.
Keep in mind they knew exactly how many candidates the greens had Apr 7th.
This is a risk, but also an opportunity.
The desire for proportional representation has never been higher. If the Liberals get a fourth term, folks from the left and the right will be wanting it.
Combined with a leader who is an outsider.. Not saying it'll happen, but the ingredients are there.
It seems their biggest concern is trying to please everyone.
17.04.2025 02:56 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0My key takeaway from this debate is that the Debate Commission is not a serious organization.
Bad enough to accept the Greens in the first place. Worse still to flip flop on THE MORNING OF. Then top it off with 5x more Rebel "news" influencers than anyone else? Wtf is this.

A small child wearing a large watermelon-themed sunhat, patterned pants, and a colourful jacket hangs a Fair Vote Canada door hanger on a white front door with decorative glass panels.
Two smiling volunteers pose for a selfie while sitting on a lawn, holding a Fair Vote Canada door hanger that lists reasons to support proportional representation. A small dog in a yellow bow tie and orange vest is also facing the camera.
A volunteer for Fair Vote Canada smiles as he walks down a residential sidewalk on a grey spring day. He wears a dark hoodie and carries a stack of door hangers promoting proportional representation. A row of houses and leafless trees are visible in the background.
Two volunteers smile at the camera while out delivering door hangers. One wears a “Farm to Table” hoodie, and the other, holding a stack of Fair Vote Canada flyers, wears a beanie and a grey hoodie. Leafless trees and a stop sign are visible in the background.
Over 2,000 Canadians are delivering 300,000+ door hangers!
From coast to coast to coast, people of all ages and backgrounds are stepping up to say: every vote should count.

I agree with all that. I just think it's possible to do this in a way that doesn't build ill will.
The vote for Conan the Barbarian signs in Yellowknife come to mind.
This is like the climate activists slashing SUV tires. Completely counter productive.

Now isn’t the time for backing down, but notable that the U.S. now cites all of Canada’s core digital policies as foreign trade barriers. 2025 report references digital services tax, online streaming rules, and now the Online News Act. Friction isn’t going away.

The national and local Conservatives have reportedly been at odds at times over candidate selection.
But what is unique with this #CdnElxn2025 is the number of candidates who were seemingly chosen in spite, or because, of their proximity to controversy or extreme views. Christopher Holcroft writes.
The Canadien Government has made an ad for the coming election, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative! #Canada2025
