Apt Freudian slip:

I believe that the meaning of the word ‘aspiration’ is different for those on the left and those on the right.
One group looks at the individual and their interest. The other looks at the relationship between the individual and the society, with support for one leading to improvement for the other.

Isn’t ‘aspiration’ one of the great BS words in politics? It’s a catch-all term word which hides the good along with the bad & the ugly.

The interviewer seems to presuppose that "aspiration" means Thatcherite accumulation of capital, rather than any of the myriad other ways people can better themselves. Kinnock's spontaneous and passionate response is sorely lacking in politics these days.

Kinnock is one of the finest proponents of progressive thought in this country and the best prime minister we never had.
