As Trump makes it more difficult to get visas for the US the UK should take the opportunity to snap up more of the brightest and the best in terms of both students and skilled workers. And the brightest and the best often come from India.

The India trip is an interesting test of whether Starmer’s number one priority really is growth, as he often claims.

If it is, an agreement on more visas for skilled workers and students would be a no-brainer.

(Although the government seems to enjoy pretending immigration is unrelated to growth…)

Opinion | When you first heard me speak against this genocide, you heard my words as betrayal. But they were meant as love β€” The Guardian Not speaking would go against everything I was taught to honour: the righteous among the nations – those who refused to be bystanders to injustice

…Not to wound, but because not speaking would betray everything I was taught to honour.”

This is such a beautifully expressed opinion piece. πŸ‘‡

Judicial Conduct Investigations Office - Courts and Tribunals Judiciary The Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice are jointly responsible for judicial discipline

UK has an *independent judge-led* process for judges to be disciplined or dismissed for misconduct. (For England & Wales seeπŸ‘‡.)

Jenrick’s threat to politicise that threatens the independence of the judiciary he says - rightly - is world-renowned.

Why autism may not be on a β€˜spectrum’ after all The idea of a single autism spectrum, stretching from mild to severe, may be misleading

I tend to use the, slightly flippant, phrasing that rather than a "spectrum" autism is more like a pick and mix you don't get to pick.
Many autistic individuals may have differing traits, and, speaking personally, support needs can fluctuate day by day.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

I hoped that the outrage about this scandal across the political spectrum demonstrated we were finally moving away from such thinking.
But Jenrick's remarks show that we are, in 2025, in an even worse place.
The comments are a symptom of a new cult of ethno-nationalism, imported from the USA and supercharged by bad actors on social media. Suddenly, a great many people - including, bizarrely, Suella Braverman - are keen on the racist idea that you simply can't be English and non-white.

We all hoped the Windrush scandal would be shame enough. But no. The Tory party plumbs new depths with its vile rhetoric. Nothing good comes from their prejudice. But our communities prove them wrong every day.

The devastating logical conclusion of this kind of argument is that anyone daring to cross a border (including British people) deserve to have all of their future national insurance rights or safety nets removed.

It’s why EU membership mattered.

The Israeli government's strategy of prolonging this genocidal war for two years has aimed, among other things, to keep Israelis in deep state of of trauma of the 7th of October. That state of trauma allowed a genocidal mindset to take hold and seriously harmed mobilisations against the government.

Jenrick delivers one of the most asinine speeches I have ever heard. He even brought along a prop, to explain how a judge becomes impartial setting aside personal views, then went on to attack judges for having views. His solution? Abolish tribunals. And who will adjudicate cases? Pfft. Details. ~AA

Jenrick has gone from forgettable nobody to frothing-BNP-styled dickhead. Why does this corrupt little man get to strut around the media blowing his racist dog-whistle?
He should be shamed and shunned out of political existence. We all despise the Tory party for a reason. He’s one of those reasons.

Leaving the European Convention on Human Rights would be an act of self-sabotage, not independence, because the convention was forged from British ideals of justice and human dignity, written by our own lawyers in the ruins of war, to ensure that tyranny could never again take hold in Europe.
