What the BoE allows is the commercial banks to charge it interest on those funds.
Why?

Currently, it's 4.25% which is a cost to the exchequer of £25 billion every single year, on money the exchequer GAVE TO THE BANS!

The ECB, & the Japanese central bank don't allow that practice.

I've just written to my MP about something Richard Murphy revealed in his daily blog.

The BoE has £600bn in protected bonds to guard against economic shocks. It also placed the same amount of new money with the big banks to secure them. That's public funds securing private banks.
