Putting together an All-Shrine Bowl team for the ALL NFL Draft Newsletter this week
One guy who will be on it? #Wyoming OL Caden Barnett
This weekend was my first exposure to him, and I thought he put three good practices together at the Shrine Bowl
I think all three NFC East teams that changed DCs this offseason made big upgrades

The best player here at the @ShrineBowl that I hadn't studied before coming down here?
#GeauxCajuns LB Jaden Dugger
Rare length, functional athleticism; made plays going forward & back π
Seems to be a decent chance that the #Falcons hire a former #Eagles personnel director as their next GM

No apology necessary! I donβt think that has changed in the last few years. All of that is the same as always
20.01.2026 12:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I get it, and I agree with part of what youβre saying. But itβs not like these athletes are going to fewer classes than ever. They still have to be eligible. The line between βstudentβ and βemployeeβ is more blurred than ever but they still must meet the guidelines that have been in place forwver
20.01.2026 11:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Yes, they paid players. But the lesson is they paid the RIGHT players
Go look at the battles they won for the best players on their team. Not a bunch of 4- and 5-star guys with dozens of offers. They didnβt βbuy a titleβ
They targeted guys that fit them, coached the hell out of them and went 16-0
No one is saying that they didnβt spend money. You HAVE to spend money.
How many players did they have to outbid other big schools for?
Does not answer the question (or apply to this team, directly, for 2025)
20.01.2026 04:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How many of the players that they brought in did they outbid the big schools for?
20.01.2026 04:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I guess I shouldn't be, but I'm SHOCKED that so many people out there look at what Indiana did and say 'well anyone can go buy a championship'
Talk about not having any kind of grasp of what we actually watched this season

Remember him doing the same stuff at LSU. Was one of my favorite college corners I've ever studied. Fair to say, one of the best zone CBs in the last decade?

I don't think it's a yes/no thing! As is the case with many things, both sides of the 'argument' can be true, and both sides deserve some blame.
I think some are too quick to say 'oh that coach won't work because of XYZ' when it comes to these discussions about coach/player fit
My point is - coaching matters with a lot of this, as does coachability. It's a two-way street.
Coaches can do things to make the MOF more accessible for the QB & create more trustworthy throws
QBs also must be willing to trust the scheme/players to win
Don't write it off!
He did that while playing in Lincoln Riley's version of the Air Raid. Two years before that, Baker Mayfield had the exact same rate in the same system. The year before, Kyler Murray was at 13.6%, which is above average relative to the rest of the sample
15.01.2026 18:29 β π 10 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0I have a 118-player sample from the last ten drafts classes
In that sample, Jalen Hurts ranks 11th in pct of throws to that area of the field in his last year of college (16.7%), the 90th percentile result
His passer rating of 119.2 on those throws is above 80th percentile
I chart a bunch of metrics at every position for #NFLDraft prospects
One thing I look at every year is how often a QB targeted a receiver between the hashes at a depth of 10-20 yards
This is NOT a predictor of future success, it is more of a descriptor of style of play
