I'm very proud of this chart πŸ€“ great presentation by my colleague @hlrandolph.bsky.social at the Social Policy Association conference this morning in York. Our recent work shows the scale of the challenge for meeting Scotland's child poverty targets using microsimulation modelling.

3rd highest was 'other' as reason, those who don't want a job. Fourth those who are LT sick/disabled who are not seeking work but would like job. These are just some potential reasons for people not working (remember small sample sizes) and highlights need to understand life outside of work (2/2)

Should be taken with caution as LFS sample size is much lower than before, but had a quick look at reasons for '1 in 8 young people inactive' news stats. Most common was long term disabled who did not want a job, followed by those looking after family/home who don't want a job. (1/2)

Chart showing 10th percentile and median equivalised household net income relative to UK: selected OECD countries, 2018

Low-to-middle income households in the UK have lower incomes than their European counterparts.

Despite a similar GDP per capita, typical households in the UK are 9% poorer than in France, and our low-income households are 27% poorer.

Every worker deserves a wage that covers their needs. But 45% of Scotland's hospitality workers didn't get the real Living Wage in 2023. This blog from our Laura Robertson and @chirstyresearch.bsky.social of @fraserofallander.bsky.social points a way forward.
