The Economic Impact of Brexit | Policy Commons This is a document published by National Bureau of Economic Research in November 2025 about Brexit, Productivity, and United Kingdom. It was written by Nicholas Bloom, Philip Bunn, Paul Mizen, et al.

Once Wol could fly (and land without crashing) we released him. Hope he made it.

. . . And started owl physio. Stretching the wing, massaging the foot, getting Wol to perch. Then flying lessons around the kitchen! More chicks to build weight.

. . . Didn’t have to force-feed him, he got through quite a number of dead chicks (it was a cold, wet, spring). After four weeks, we unstrapped the wing and removed the splint . . .

We fashioned a splint for the leg and strapped the wing and put the owl (now named Wol) into a cage where he clacked his beak angrily every time we got too near . . .

I caught the owl, bantam and chicks and restored order. (My mother not pleased, three chicks died). Examination of owl showed one broken wing and one broken leg, but no broken spirit! . . .

. . . I hadn’t realised my mother had put a newly hatched brood of bantams to keep warm on the other side of the stove!

. . . Next morning, I came down early to find bedlam! The owl was chasing bantam chicks around the kitchen chased by their mother . . .

. . . And put him to bed next to the oil-fired stove in the kitchen. Poorly, I reckoned he’d die in the night . . .

Late one evening I found a Little Owl flapping about in a rural road. Poor thing must have been hit by a car. I threw a rug over him and took him home . . .

Congrats. And couldn't agree more about the need to look beyond citations in academic journals to tell a positive story about #RealWorldImpact. I wonder how many of these reports from think tanks, NGOs etc cited your work? policycommons.net/search/?q=%2...

Quite right, but this story that no-one reads UN reports is nonsense! Virtually all reports are downloaded >500 times, and a third are downloaded >2k times which compares well with scholarly books and journal articles!

To put this in perspective: a year’s worth of irregular migrants would fit into a premier league stadium while a year’s worth of legal immigrants is equivalent to one weekend’s attendance at all pro football matches in the UK.

This line was pushed at the recent OTT conference in Jo’burg. But as I reminded delegates, the most impactful report over the past 12 months must be Project 2025 which weighed in at over 900 pages . . 🤔
