So I accidentally got the permissions mixed up between the #announcements channel and the #general channel on our new stoat server

(5/5) I, for one, would much rather have stoat (coding with some AI influences, but community driven and fully open source), than closed-source software from a company apparently interested in becoming more and more like Palantir.

(4/?) Stoat, at least, is currently free of vibe-coded software, and my understanding is the author has committed to keeping it that way (notably after creating quite the stir with the contribution of some now-removed vibe-coded commits)

(3/?) I think we have more-or-less established that vibe-coding is not a great phenomenon, but regarding other usages, I think the jury is still out on whether it is a net good or a net negative. So I am witholding judgement for now.

(2/?) But, and I do say this as someone who really dislikes the idea of AI being used for code (and as someone whose primary profession is programming), the moral quandaries are not nearly as clear-cut, especially if we aren't talking about vibe-coding.

(1/?) To add some more nuance to the AI thing: I am extremely anti-AI, especially for ANYTHING creative.

And I am (currently) of the opinion that using AI for coding tasks is a faustian bargain.

REGARDING DISCORD REPLACEMENTS:

I am warming up to stoat. It is imperfect, and the main author is sadly an AI user (for some code), but it is open-source, accepting community contributions, and IMO one of the front-runner alternatives to discord. stoat.chat

I am cancelling my discord nitro subscription. Discord has proved they are no longer a platform I can put my trust in. I will be looking into alternatives.

I've been playing around with the math for custom projection matrices in Godot. I found something I'm pretty happy with! The three dots define the mid-planes of the projection matrix. This is required for efficient rendering of flat portals, especially if one is to avoid near-clipping errors

calling it an "animation" might be a bit of a stretch, but this was after a series of abandoned projects that failed due to being wayyyy too ambitious, so I had to set the bar low enough on this one that I'd actually finish it :P
