Showcasing the amazing wildlife we have right here in the Scottish Borders and promoting the brilliant conservation groups that help protect it.
I hope so! Itβs every day at the moment!
30.10.2025 08:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Seriously! This little guy is determined to destroy the camera! @pinetencolin.bsky.social
30.10.2025 06:43 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Thatβs amazing footage π
29.10.2025 07:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Lovely footage - nice bib shot too!
28.10.2025 08:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, I do like this site. Lots of activity on that log!
25.10.2025 19:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Please donβt destroy my cameraβ¦β¦ @pinetencolin.bsky.social
25.10.2025 18:21 β π 28 π 13 π¬ 1 π 2Thereβs a tree next to it that will give a better view for the camera I think. Iβll need to put up some sort of platform/feeder as well. Iβd put out raisins and peanut butter yesterday but unfortunately the badger found it and managed to get itself up.
19.10.2025 08:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Trying a similar set up. Put it together quickly yesterday to see if the marten would visit. It did so now need to set it up properly. Any suggestions?
19.10.2025 08:24 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Brilliant!
18.10.2025 17:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs taken a while but the red squirrels have found the feeder. Theyβve been back and forth all afternoon, emptying the feeder as they go. Now the hazelnuts are gone, so are they! @scotwildlife.bsky.social #squirrels #woodlandwildlife
15.10.2025 16:31 β π 7 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Can anyone help me find out what this is? It was blown out of a tree during Storm Amy. About the size of a small football and made from grass, moss and small sticks. No feathers in it. I think it might be a squirrel dreyβ¦.? #nests #ukwildlife
11.10.2025 17:20 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Found this stunning Phaeolepiota aurea (golden bootleg) fungus at work this morning. Not one Iβve come across before - seems it might not be that well recorded in the region. @whitmuir1.bsky.social @britmycolsoc.org.uk #fungi #mycology #fascinatingfungi
07.10.2025 12:43 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Looks like we have a second marten visiting now. Brilliant. @whitmuir1.bsky.social @pinetencolin.bsky.social
05.10.2025 13:18 β π 26 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0Both 1 and 4 were in deciduous woodland with lots of beech and birch. The first went faintly blue on the inside of the cap when cut. I thought maybe Xerocomellus chrysenteron.
04.10.2025 19:39 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Can anyone help me with ID for these fungi on this #ukfungusday? All found in Selkirkshire, Scottish Borders. @whitmuir1.bsky.social @jeremybartlett.bsky.social @davidst999.bsky.social @joaniemcnaughton.bsky.social @britmycolsoc.org.uk
04.10.2025 14:36 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Thereβs an apple above the feeder but itβs just ignoring it. Eggs, cranberries and raisins seem to be the winners with this one. Might be worth trying some datesβ¦.
01.10.2025 14:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Might give that a try as well.
30.09.2025 20:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Decided to try an experiment. One of our pine martens (Big Norm) likes eggs and will immediately carry them away. Tonight I thought Iβd try hanging one from a branch. Took a bit of work but it was fun watching him trying to remove the egg! @whitmuir1.bsky.social @pinetencolin.bsky.social
30.09.2025 19:37 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 3 π 0The whole system of compensating land owners for loss due to raptors (and possibly Lynx in the future) needs to be stopped as well. Instead they should be given incentives to coexist. Celebrate living with these amazing animals rather than constantly focusing on what might go wrong.
30.09.2025 05:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The sooner grouse moors and shooting estates are confined to the history books the better. So sick of this. Even if they find the culprits there wonβt be any real punishment. It needs to change.
29.09.2025 19:01 β π 20 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0Love how gently this marten removes the egg from the feeder. @pinetencolin.bsky.social @whitmuir1.bsky.social
28.09.2025 20:05 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Cheeky things π€£π€£π€£
26.09.2025 18:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Could this be rosy bonnet (Mycena rosea)? Found on grassland next to Beech trees in the Scottish Borders. #fungi @davidst999.bsky.social
26.09.2025 17:45 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm giving it some serious thought! Especially if it keeps appearing in daylight.
23.09.2025 17:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβd love that.
23.09.2025 17:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Really enjoying this new woodland. This marten is around at the same time every day - mid/late afternoon, just after dark and then again just before dawn. Love it π₯° @whitmuir1.bsky.social @pinetencolin.bsky.social #pinemartens #woodlandwildlife #mustelids
23.09.2025 05:35 β π 15 π 4 π¬ 2 π 0Just started monitoring a new pine marten site. This one is a large conifer plantation (my others are in deciduous woodlands). Amazing how quickly this one found the feeder - although it still needs to figure out how to use it! Cranberries seem to be a winner thoughβ¦ @pinetencolin.bsky.social
18.09.2025 19:16 β π 17 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0Wondering if these are young martens. Normally they donβt pay attention to the camerasβ¦ @pinetencolin.bsky.social #pinemartens #ukmammals #woodlandwildlife
12.09.2025 06:29 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I love the live cameras but starting to think that they need to be used alongside normal trail cams.
