Fuck, if they're poking this topic I might have to watch the whole show to get to that point

Anarchists can bring a tremendous amount of scrappy resourcefulness and prior experience in the street to this stuff. We're very good at distributed aid networks. That's like the whole fucking thing. It's time to take the fucking win and see how durable this thing can get.

I am an anarchist who is not really interested in litigating about dumpsters right now but I am extremely interested in how to protect the schools and families in my neighborhood with a broad base of people.

03.02.2026 23:36 β€” πŸ‘ 30    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

When the dust settles from a purely cynical perspective anarchists are going to want to be on the inside of this organizing not the out.

03.02.2026 23:34 β€” πŸ‘ 33    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah I don't fucking get how people are not excited about mass politics that looks like this. It's decentralized, extremely pro-social and importantly it is fucking winning on the ground against the goddamn federal immigration apparatus. This is a coalition that anarchists should be good in.

i'm confused how she's in private practice and also working for DOJ? tracking on the rest though

The account in question appears to be a very normal news reporter account for the local Fox affiliate in Minnesota so I don't see a credibility problem

Frankly, this is fucking different than anything that we have encountered vis-a-vis resisting the government in the past 25 years. BLM was not this popular per capita of affected area. The threat was not unending and grinding like this either.

They've got the firepower. We have the mass.

People talking about this on The Website broadly have been unable to see the above, especially re: patrolling/observing, as discourse table stakes and it's driving me a bit nuts. You can't do the observing/patrolling with the same level of secrecy/vetting you'd want for delivering aid.

03.02.2026 20:51 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Those feel like the table stakes to me of this conversation. If you want to argue for extremely compartmented "opsec" that energy is best applied to aid for those under threat. Everyone else observing and patrolling is in a public mass movement. If that's not for you there's other stuff to do.

03.02.2026 20:50 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It is on its face apparent that the anti ICE organizing that has proven extremely effective at grinding them down in MPLS thrives in a mass context and the very act of doing it fully compromises your anonymity.

See also that aid runs to sheltering immigrants requires shielding your identity.

The term legal observer traditionally has not been used like that for a while in the protest milieu. You do not have to have formal legal training to be an nlg legal observer.

People doing ice watch welcome to call themselves what they want I think, if that means emphasizing "legal" so be it.

03.02.2026 20:36 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

NLG doesn't have a monopoly on the term but until very recently it was mostly reserved (in my experience) for green hat types who strictly observe/report on police action.

03.02.2026 20:29 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Imo this sucks so bad, take water and don't stop flushing. Baby shampoo maybe has helpful properties but this is part of why I think it's a bad idea.

03.02.2026 20:16 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The gas is heavier than air. Upstairs is good. Ceiling your ground floor doors with towels or similar and windows is good too.

03.02.2026 19:33 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Tear gas is heavier than air so higher is better. Seal door frames where possible with towels or similar.

Interesting. I am a big believer in standardizing across contexts and am only ever carrying one model. If that weren't the case I would perhaps evaluate differently, but if I'm going to have any context where I have a light on the gun, I think I want it generally.

03.02.2026 18:20 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I guess I'm not so basic that I don't think of a red dot and a light as mandatory lol

03.02.2026 18:07 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm an extremely basic bitch and will just have a Glock 19 indefinitely, but it is cool to see that manufacturers are considering such things

Something something practice makes permanent not perfect something something

The best instruction I've had to this point for rule 3 is "keep your finger straight high and away from the trigger until you are prepared for the gun to fire". Turning it into an active thing instead of just a negative suggestion is a really good framing device.

03.02.2026 17:55 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yo what the fuck that is art

Are you concerned about either the exteriors or interiors of the bean bags getting too hot and potentially bursting into flame? That would be my major concern.

03.02.2026 17:28 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

this makes me think of some recent escort rifts here that didn't get publicly spread but were really fucking nasty. and the end result was a bunch of extremely dedicated people leaving the practice

This is the type of thing that builds a broad identity, a mass radicalization. Extremely impressed that the crowd held it down and escaped the gas without panicking.

ICE is afraid of children protesting β€œNext time, I’ll be back with a gas mask.”

ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...
