Really sharply drawn portraits of people in different positions in fascism's aftermath, having done what they thought they had to do.

I'm really glad you're adding stuff from this list!
I can typically take a pretty boundaried hourish during the workday to read on break. I also like to get in an hour or two if nothing else is happening in the evenings before bed. Sometimes professional circumstances dictate a hurry-up-and-wait, so I make sure to have book for those moments too.

12.02.2026 18:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm a little behind pace for Feb tbh, I think finishing 17 this month (shorter than January) is going to be tough.
12.02.2026 18:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0#25 Somewhere Toward Freedom - I was interested in more of a technical military history of Sherman's March to the Sea but this book focuses on the effects on and contributions of newly freed people to the endeavor was a fresh lens. Also learned about the Port Royal experiment for the first time.

Makes the point that Reserve Police Battalion was not a typical or highly "Nazified" unit but still managed to participate in a tremendous number of shooting executions during the Holocaust. A grim warning.

11.02.2026 01:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0it is certainly not on this topic directly but i do think that securitycryptographywhatever.com does an awesome job at talking about developments in the cryptography (the good crypto) software space if you branch that way

#23 Tongues of Serpents - another Temeraire book down. This one in Australia. Not my favorite main plot/quest, feels a bit like a prior novel, but the geopolitics of the world and how the dragons/other animals play into them remain high points.

10.02.2026 19:22 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I arrived too late to an abduction yesterday. Ice vehicles boxed in a food delivery driver on the highway. They took him, and when I came on the scene (with a few other neighbors in cars), his keys were still in it. We found his phone, a debit card, his car title and registration.
