Anarchists can bring a tremendous amount of scrappy resourcefulness and prior experience in the street to this stuff. We're very good at distributed aid networks. That's like the whole fucking thing. It's time to take the fucking win and see how durable this thing can get.

I am an anarchist who is not really interested in litigating about dumpsters right now but I am extremely interested in how to protect the schools and families in my neighborhood with a broad base of people.

Frankly, this is fucking different than anything that we have encountered vis-a-vis resisting the government in the past 25 years. BLM was not this popular per capita of affected area. The threat was not unending and grinding like this either.

People talking about this on The Website broadly have been unable to see the above, especially re: patrolling/observing, as discourse table stakes and it's driving me a bit nuts. You can't do the observing/patrolling with the same level of secrecy/vetting you'd want for delivering aid.

Those feel like the table stakes to me of this conversation. If you want to argue for extremely compartmented "opsec" that energy is best applied to aid for those under threat. Everyone else observing and patrolling is in a public mass movement. If that's not for you there's other stuff to do.

It is on its face apparent that the anti ICE organizing that has proven extremely effective at grinding them down in MPLS thrives in a mass context and the very act of doing it fully compromises your anonymity.

The term legal observer traditionally has not been used like that for a while in the protest milieu. You do not have to have formal legal training to be an nlg legal observer.

People doing ice watch welcome to call themselves what they want I think, if that means emphasizing "legal" so be it.

NLG doesn't have a monopoly on the term but until very recently it was mostly reserved (in my experience) for green hat types who strictly observe/report on police action.

The gas is heavier than air. Upstairs is good. Ceiling your ground floor doors with towels or similar and windows is good too.

Interesting. I am a big believer in standardizing across contexts and am only ever carrying one model. If that weren't the case I would perhaps evaluate differently, but if I'm going to have any context where I have a light on the gun, I think I want it generally.

The best instruction I've had to this point for rule 3 is "keep your finger straight high and away from the trigger until you are prepared for the gun to fire". Turning it into an active thing instead of just a negative suggestion is a really good framing device.

This is the type of thing that builds a broad identity, a mass radicalization. Extremely impressed that the crowd held it down and escaped the gas without panicking.
