Perhaps to add only that Brexit was, for many, ultimately an act of faith – a leap forward to the past.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.

What is happening in United States is what happens when coercive powers of the state - arrest, detention, charges - are used as ends in themselves, and not as means of serving justice.

They know the arrests and charges will not stick, but they don’t care.

Intimidation, like cruelty, is the point.

All that has happened with the killings of Good and Pretti is that the US federal government now knows what it cannot - yet - get away with: murdering civilians while being filmed.

The general sense of the news reports from the United States is that the federal government has realised it has gone too far too soon in being filmed freely killing civilians in the streets.

Public opinion is just not ready for that yet.

This is so grim. It strongly suggests that what comes after Trump could be worse – and long lasting. ☹️
