02.04.2025 13:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm not here to start any arguments.. Just pointing out the phrasing "free money" is very misleading. It connotation is Ireland or the other countries are doing something wrong or underhanded.
29.03.2025 19:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm not arguing the fiscal pros or cons of the rebate. It's really a natural part of most non us government policies. It encourages productions to spend money in countries around the world which might not otherwise come.
To be clear I'm sorry for anything bad that's happening to LA.
We speak English... You'll be grand.
Also to note to the original poster, it's a tax rebate so not free money per ce. Any production has to pay the tax and it's then refunded once certain conditions are met. The state doesn't give any money away it essentially gives discounts
Lovely artwork

28.03.2025 19:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'd argue that when a band had success like AFTP and they make millions etc, when they've toured endlessly, it's practically impossible to have the same output. Rem almost buck the trend but theres a line of thinking that says a band's best material is usually within their first 3 albums.
24.03.2025 21:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's interesting to hear you sum up the last 5 albums. I think Lucas was absolutely 100 right though. I don't think any band of any note produces significant career defining albums in their late years. It's also why around the sun isn't a disaster as it comes 13 albums into a very successful career
24.03.2025 21:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm not crying.... I'm not!!!
17.03.2025 18:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's been a ride.
Listening to the podcast gave me an excuse to fall back in love with R.e.m
Not that they're ever far from my heart but I've learnt a new appreciation for all 3 eras of band.
I don't think any lyricist that's around for decades and have written 15 albums write the same way they used to. I think the cornet element was something they were happy to embrace. When you've written masterpieces like Find the River or Night swimming its hard to try topping that
24.02.2025 20:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There's definitely precedent for some band to do "sequels" in music. The obvious one the comes to mind is Metallicas Unforgiven and unforgiven 2.
24.02.2025 20:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think I got a little put off my oh my heart due to the Houston connection but I quickly learnt you love it. Sure the song even addressed it "Hear the answer and call, hear this song, rearranged"
24.02.2025 20:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also love All The Best . I love that it's openly addressing doing one last album and out staying their welcome. Lovely sense of self depreciation.
Don't know if you'll throw in the 3 songs from the best of, but We all go back to where we belong might be the most beautiful sign off
It's a lovely sign off. I think it's got the DNA of Accelerate but definitely a lot more colour and warmth.
Discoverer, Uberlin and Oh My heart are up there for me.
** correction it was the iTunes remaster**
10.02.2025 20:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They've subsequently, without any fanfare, have released an official less abrasive mix via Spotify etc.
Funny death magnetic was similar to Accelerate..was seen as a purposely return to the roots .
Album was also similar is monotone cover
Really good episode and some honestly good research. You wouldn't think there's an overlap but I'm a massive Metallica fan as well as r.e.m and death magnetic's cd is almost unlistenable. The guitar hero version was ripped from the game files so wasn't fans playing it.
