03.03.2025 07:07 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Agreed! This is a really complex issue! Made much more difficult by different cultures having a wide variety of different, and sometimes conflicting, ideas on the subject.
What is the morality of mining on the moon? How do we—or even can we—reconcile the major cultural differences?
Yeah. It will take a generation to recover from the self-inflicted damage.
03.03.2025 06:51 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0On its surface, yes. but this sort of thing happens pretty regularly. When the U.S. attempts to engage in diplomacy we often pause some of our activities, so as not to jeopardize the negotiations. Sadly our adversaries do not return this professional courtesy. Don’t get too upset about this just yet

The public has a right to know who is dismantling the government.

24.02.2025 10:30 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Ugh! I was here in the early days of BlueSky And so was Neil Gaiman--whose books I have enjoyed. And he was just charming and actively engaged with the the fledgling community. I sent him a message, and he personally responded. That seemed cool.
And then all the horrible SH!t about him came out.
Snitch up deepstaters!

14.01.2025 09:45 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It's being constantly reminded that you are a victim. We found that at some point, the act of going to these "free stuff for fire victims" events was doing more emotional harm than good. At some point, and that will vary from person to person. You have to cut that off and try to move on.
14.01.2025 09:42 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Another thing, which I should have led with) is to simply say "yes" to anyone and everyone who offers to help you, in any way. It's emotionally hard for many of us (me included) to ask for help. It's hard to even accept help.Just suck it up and say, yes, thank you to every offer of help you receive.
14.01.2025 09:36 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It's spending hours going to warehouses full of donated goods available for free to fire victims. But, for the most part, the stuff donated is what retailers couldn't sell, because it was ugly. Yes, it's clothes on your back when you had little before, but not clothes you feel good wearing.
14.01.2025 09:29 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0"Recovery Fatigue" is the idea that the very act of trying claim some the free stuff that has been donated is emotionally exhausting. It's feeling like you're a privileged person who, yes has undergone a tragedy, but is nonetheless in better shape than the poor or homeless.
14.01.2025 09:20 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This is really hard to answer. It's 3 years since the Marshall fire and my family *just* closed the last big item on our recovery journey. The PTSD is still there, and comes back when the weather conditions are similar.
That said, one of the most surprising things to us was "Recovey fatigue"
Perhaps I shall have to include that in my next NASA proposal...
