Taking a break from work for art is rarely the wrong choice.

Agreed! This is a really complex issue! Made much more difficult by different cultures having a wide variety of different, and sometimes conflicting, ideas on the subject.

What is the morality of mining on the moon? How do we—or even can we—reconcile the major cultural differences?

Yeah. It will take a generation to recover from the self-inflicted damage.

On its surface, yes. but this sort of thing happens pretty regularly. When the U.S. attempts to engage in diplomacy we often pause some of our activities, so as not to jeopardize the negotiations. Sadly our adversaries do not return this professional courtesy. Don’t get too upset about this just yet

Who Is in DOGE? Tracking Its Staffers and Allies in the Federal Government The Times identified 49 people within the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, a group formed by Elon Musk that in a short few weeks has radically upended federal agencies.

To go along with our piece today, we published an extensive list of folks associated with DOGE. It builds off and adds to the strong work that Wired, WaPo, ProPublica and other pubs have been doing.

The public has a right to know who is dismantling the government.

A “right”? No. The privilege? Maybe. it’s not as if there is any lunar life to be taking resources from. Who decides whom and under what conditions resources may be extracted?

In these troubled times, take the time to hug those whom you love.

Ugh! I was here in the early days of BlueSky And so was Neil Gaiman--whose books I have enjoyed. And he was just charming and actively engaged with the the fledgling community. I sent him a message, and he personally responded. That seemed cool.

And then all the horrible SH!t about him came out.

That said, my son ended up with a bunch of high-end new FjallRaven gear, and my daughter ended up with some lightly used but high end purses. Carolyn and I ended up with the dregs. Filling a clothing void, but no joy.

It's being constantly reminded that you are a victim. We found that at some point, the act of going to these "free stuff for fire victims" events was doing more emotional harm than good. At some point, and that will vary from person to person. You have to cut that off and try to move on.

Another thing, which I should have led with) is to simply say "yes" to anyone and everyone who offers to help you, in any way. It's emotionally hard for many of us (me included) to ask for help. It's hard to even accept help.Just suck it up and say, yes, thank you to every offer of help you receive.

It's spending hours going to warehouses full of donated goods available for free to fire victims. But, for the most part, the stuff donated is what retailers couldn't sell, because it was ugly. Yes, it's clothes on your back when you had little before, but not clothes you feel good wearing.

"Recovery Fatigue" is the idea that the very act of trying claim some the free stuff that has been donated is emotionally exhausting. It's feeling like you're a privileged person who, yes has undergone a tragedy, but is nonetheless in better shape than the poor or homeless.

This is really hard to answer. It's 3 years since the Marshall fire and my family *just* closed the last big item on our recovery journey. The PTSD is still there, and comes back when the weather conditions are similar.

That said, one of the most surprising things to us was "Recovey fatigue"

Perhaps I shall have to include that in my next NASA proposal...

And while it is quite interesting, from a scientific point of view, I'm not entirely certain that "NASA BOFFINS" have said that it holds "KEY TO SECRETS OF WHOLE UNIVERSE".

Opinion: Bluesky is a dangerous echo chamber because no one wants to hear from me, specifically They just… blocked me. Like I’m some kind of annoyance, rather than the iconoclastic and fascinating truth-teller which I know myself to be.

“Two years ago, Elon Musk bought Twitter. I personally didn’t have a problem with that, because I’m a common sense centrist who nevertheless only writes about how much I agree with reactionary ideas.”

Pitch-perfect satire.

The election is triggering a mass exodus. I know of numerous colleagues that have forsken X as too toxic and are now on Bsky. Will be interesting if this is the step that pushes the platform over that hurdle into mainstream acceptance.

Reposting this absolute gem of an optical illusion. The (obviously slanting) sky blue lines are actually 100% horizontal. Look at your monitor very obliquely to see...

@elakdawalla.bsky.social when did you become a Uranus Expert? Asking seriously, as I think we need all the support we can get for a Uranus orbiter & probe (ya ya, eventually it will get old...)
