I knew that "Jimmy Olsen has rizz" has always been canon, dating back to the 1950s, but I didn't realize how deep subsequent storylines leaned into it.
09.08.2025 15:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Jimmy has rizz
Jimmy has more rizz
Jimmy has son of rizz
Jimmy has ancient Roman rizz.
For the Clark/Lois dynamic, Tim Hanley's book "Investigating Lois Lane" is great. 1940s Superman was kiiiiiinda a real jerk to her! (He got better).
As for Jimmy...
The details differ but the βjealous Lexβ vibe is right out of Morrisonβs All-Star Superman.
09.08.2025 03:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0All of these except the Lrypton plot beat are straight out of early Superman. Jimmy has been a sex magnet even across species since the 1960s. In the 1940s, Clark regularly used superpowers to beat Lois to a scoop.
The Krypton-as-conquerors vibe was introduced by John Byrneβs 1990s run.
Immediately thought of the scene in "Dr. No" when Connery put a hair across the closet door.
08.08.2025 18:18 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No, I don't expect anything from you at all. I think it's fine if you want to snark at someone for a normal thing, just don't expect other people to not notice.
08.08.2025 16:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I acknowledge you saying that you find it hard to be impressed by the advances in the models since 2022, but I also think that's a pretty lonely position to be in. Certainly it doesn't justify your snark at Stancil for being impressed. Being impressed by the current models is pretty normal, TBH.

The TLDR is: what is striking about the past few years of LLMs (and other "dataset plus gradient descent" technologies) isn't their existence, or their accuracy, but the recent *rate of change* of improvement.
Would you like me to answer from a technical perspective or a business perspective? (I swear I'm not being snarky, I want to understand your question.)
LLMs, like all technologies, have limitations and may be more or less effective depending on what one is trying to apply them to.
Worst. Comment. Ever.
The Stancil Effect is shocking to see happen. @whstancil.bsky.social says something completely obvious and anodyne, like "Jeez, these LLMs are pretty impressive huh" and his replies are FLOODED with people arguing that only a dope thinks that.
God help us if the dude ever says "the sky is blue."
Like all technological progress, we've had machines that we labeled (rightly or wrongly) as intelligent since the Mechanical Turk and probably before. Pretending that there hasn't been an inflection point in the nature and quality of the results in the past few years is just childish.
08.08.2025 12:14 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I think it's legitimately intriguing and says something about human psychology that a certain percentage of the population responds to these (actually impressive) datasets-plus-gradient-descent machines with "I'm going to write my own version of A New Kind Of Science".
08.08.2025 11:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hi, engineer here. We had machines for thousands of years, boolean logic for hundreds, and transitors for about 75 years before someone managed to get machines to respond like this with this level of agility. Even though it's "just math" it's perfectly appropriate to be impressed by it.

05.08.2025 14:21 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is a beautiful explanation and I am sad that, as over time people find it, you are going to be subject to angry people who didn't actually read or understand it yelling at you for "telling me that what I experienced hasn't happened!"
