REPORT: If governments were to implement the promises they made in 2023, to triple renewables, double energy efficiency, reduce methane by 2030 & beyond, they could
✅ significantly cut projected warming - by 0.9˚C
✅ cut warming rate by a third by 2035 and halve it by 2040

Large-scale nature-based carbon removal is limited given the risks of overreliance on natural sinks in a warming world. All land-based and technological carbon removals are scaled broadly within previously identified sustainability and feasibility bounds.

In the removals I would agree, if you consider the scale this is massive. we calculated that if we manage to deploy half of it, we still land below 1.5C.

This is the emissions curve, which actually compares with the existing IPCC AR6 ones. Higher starting point and it basically catches up around the mid 2040s. You can check the table below as well. That’s from the report.

Hi Chris, indeed, if you take a look also on the temperature profile, the 0.1C overshoot (e.g. 1.7C peak for a longer period) cannot be avoided now, but we could get below 1.5C e.g. around 1.2C by the end of the century.

🚨🚨🚨 NEW REPORT ALERT 🚨🚨🚨
@climateanalytics.org has a new report out today that I’m really excited about. It’s all about 1.5ºC...

▶️ Is overshooting 1.5ºC inevitable?
▶️ Can we still get temperatures back below 1.5ºC?
▶️ If so, how?

If you’re interested in our findings, buckle up for a mega thread...

👉 Looking forward to engage in discussions about rescuing the 1.5°C in the upcoming #COP30.

Despite the -collective- political failure to address the issue, the 1.5°C window is still open, but we need to double down on action ✊ aka Highest Possible Ambition!

Enjoy it and feel free to reach out!

After years of political failure, the world can still rescue 1.5°C – if countries pursue the “highest possible ambition”, starting now.

New report from Climate Analytics and @pik-potsdam.bsky.social shows how it’s possible.

New 1.5°C aligned NDC climate targets were due this week, but few have been announced.

We are producing science-based economy-wide 2030 and 2035 emissions targets for key countries on our 1.5°C national pathway explorer.

Reaching the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C limit: are we there yet? Two new papers published in Nature Climate Change today ask whether the recent global temperatures at or exceeding 1.5° warming above preindustrial mean the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C limit has been reac...

With 2024 coming in at or above #1o5C, and a run of 12 months to June 2024 where monthly warming was at or above 1.5°C, questions are coming about whether or not the longer-term 1.5°C limit set out in the Paris Agreement has been reached.

2 papers out today look at these Qs. 🧵👇

The images from LA fires are horrific, coinciding with announcements that 2024 was the hottest year on record. This will be the new normal if no action is taken.. Reality is, that we need #climateaction and we need it now! So, how about phasing out fossil fuels and restoring natural ecosystems?
