The Everglades concentration camp is violating human rights & dehumanizing people. Wasteful & abusive. Years of anti-immigrant discourse & DeSantis's opportunism led us here.

A map, a myth and a pre-Incan lagoon: the man who brought water back to a drought-ridden town When historian Galo Ramรณn uncovered a long-forgotten pre-Incan water system in Ecuador, he set about restoring it, and helped transform the landscape and livelihoods

Brighten your day. Historian rediscovers a pre-Incan method of water storage, gets money to restore the existing structures, and the town he grew up in now has access to water 10 hours a day, up from 1/2 hour per day. The details are v. cool.

Migration is a human right. Immigrants are welcome here in Los Angeles, where they are over 1/3 of our population. As if the city could even run without them, but also as if we would WANT to. Cultural exchange & understanding are a gift and I am proud that they shape LAโ€™s culture so deeply.

Weird time to get a degree in history, but Iโ€™m thrilled to share that I received my masterโ€™s degree from Cal State LA on Tuesday! On to the next chapter, where I use this learning to increase collective understanding of the past and help us confront the (MANY) challenges we face in the present ๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ‰

I, in contrast, believe that bringing to light human suffering that has occurred in the past allows us to shape a more compassionate future, a far more worthy goal than propping up a nationalism based on half-truths.

Teaching those facts isnโ€™t โ€œunpatrioticโ€ unless your definition of patriotism includes freely rewriting history to pretend bad things never happened.

AHA research indicates that US history teachers are focused on teaching children basic, factual information about US history. Unfortunately, basic, factual US history includes enslavement of people of African descent, forced removal of indigenous people, & exclusion of women from the right to vote.๐Ÿงต
