Is it harder to write a 170k word novel that carries the reader's attention or the one line hook at the very beginning?

I started watching Trigun Stampede and I was immediately in my feels. A decade ago my brother who has now passed binged the OG Tri-gun with me.

Stories are important because they make us feel things we don't feel anywhere else. Yes, they are escapism but they are also much more.
