🎉 Huge congrats to Dr. Anna Köck on her successful PhD defense!
She uncovered a new protein complex that limits nutrient uptake by the endothelial barrier with implications for metabolism, obesity, and drug delivery. 🔥
One paper accepted, another coming soon: stay tuned! 🌟

🦀 In patients with cancer, IPA levels are generally low, but increase in a subset after chemotherapy.
‼️ Higher IPA levels anticorrelate with monocyte abundance, a feature linked to poor prognosis.

🦠 Chemo‑induced gut injury expands bacteria that produce indole‑3‑propionic acid (IPA).
🦴 IPA reaches the bone marrow, normalizes myelopoiesis, and reduces immunosuppressive monocytes.
🛡️ This boosts T‑cell anti‑tumor activity and creates a metastasis‑refractory state.

Our new study is out! 🎉
Driven by MD‑PhD Ludivine Bersier, our work shows how chemotherapy‑induced gut injury creates a systemic “chemomemory” that protects against colorectal cancer (CRC) liver metastasis.

A recent preprint (Yang et al., doi.org/10.1101/2025...) challenges an article from my lab published in 2024 (Koh et al. 2024, PMID: 39537918). We strongly dispute their claims (please see our comment on bioRXiv).
