I’m sorry, but why are we not talking about β€œan interview conducted through his Ring doorbell”? That is the icing on the cake. 🍰

Never pass up a history lesson from Derek Guy. When Republicans talk about bringing back coal jobs, they want to benefit the bosses, not the workers.

I got to see a live Sailor Moon musical theater show in DC a number of years ago, and it was … epic. :)

I'm having flashbacks to 2002, when many of us were saying "Homeland Security? I'm not sure that's a great idea..."

Un-fucking-believable.

I really need to watch Pan’s Labyrinth again - I was on a plane at the time and couldn’t fully appreciate it. And Lady Bird is one of my son’s favorites for similar reasons.

Reupping my answers on your thread since more people will see it. :)
1. The Secret of NIMH
2. Being John Malkovich
3. New York State of Mind (Billy Joel)
4. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (books, radio show, and BBC miniseries)
5. Mahler Symphony No. 2

Lovely -- I love the duality between Pan's Labyrinth and Lady Bird.

Brain Salad Surgery is an amazing album.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out is an amazing choice. And what is KISS ALIVE? Like the band?

Excellent -- I considered including both The Dark Crystal and A Wrinkle in Time on mine as well.

These are excellent answers, and absolutely consistent with everything I know about you. By the way, Robin of Sherwood is on Dani's list too (not surprisingly).

Also, you probably didn't eat enough / drink enough water.

It's the gifted-kid superiority/inferiority complex thing. For me, it's the childhood combination of outsized praise from teachers (before I got lazy and they all got disappointed) and bullying from classmates. Makes you (me) believe you're simultaneously better than everyone and worthless.

No answers yet? Ok here are mine, in no particular order:
1. The Secret of NIMH
2. Being John Malkovich
3. New York State of Mind (Billy Joel)
4. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (books, radio show, and BBC miniseries)
5. Mahler Symphony No. 2

This is an exercise in efficiency. I know you can do it.

What five pieces of media (books, TV, movies, music, etc.) were most responsible for forming your personality? Not your favorites per se, but the ones that most influenced who you are now. (I know @deaconblues1979.bsky.social will have a good answer to this one.)

Is @merkley.senate.gov doing what @booker.senate.gov did and we’re only paying a small amount of attention?????

Also, Merkley has been training for something for the past three months and he said it was a race to save the Senate but now I’m wondering if it was for this

We saw her perform the whole thing last summer and she still sounds incredible.

There’s a really fun book by James Morrow called Towing Jehovah, in which God dies and falls into the ocean, and an alcoholic former oil tanker pilot has to tow his two-mile-long corpse to the Arctic to be preserved.

I watched Godfather by myself for the first time about 10 years ago, just to see what the big deal was all about. It was ok. *shrug*

This is exactly what they think though -- I've seen plenty of MAGA say things like "you complain about Donald Trump having 34 felonies but you have no problem with George Floyd." Well, George Floyd wasn't running for president - he was brutally murdered by cops. Not quite the same thing.
