we need a plan for the Chicago Boys just like we need a plan for the inheritors of the slavery aristocracy. you can live, but not like this.

Surgery Fellow: Let’s Check Out of Hotel Rooms for Oral Board Exams Meredith Barrett, MD, reflects on speaking up about an uncomfortable tradition, and the vulnerability it took to do so.

Obvious scale reasons these things (boards, interviews, etc.) happen/happened in hotel rooms, but the weirdness factor is still an important thing to consider as one of many things that registers differently if you’re, for example, a woman.

A reminder during Native American Heritage Month:

The legacy of centuries of oppression and theft from Native people is their vast overrepresentation in state prisons.

allowing prisoners to file compassionate release motions in fed court was a great thing that came of a certain moment in time. as someone who has litigated many of these cases, I’ve seen judges over time try callously to turn an obviously open-ended statute into one that has little effect. it sucks!

Well, it looks like NY is reverting to a BHP, but not from Medicaid, from a waiver-based BHP-like program that has a higher income limit than BHP. Will push people bt 200–250% into the now even worse marketplace if they want coverage. State comment period is over.

An screenshot of a digital Department of Healthcare Finance slideshow image captioned β€œCost of Care Continues to Increase.” The image shows a thick red arrow shooting up on a chart, alongside a rocket ship that is acting as some kind of regression line, with two clipart physicians and an EKG readout that looks sort of like atrial flutter and sort of like PSVT and sort of like PVCs (idk).

using the still-watermarked stock image in your PowerPoint presentation about how you gotta kick people off Medicaid is lowkey goated when a being a state healthcare financing agency is the vibe.

DC’s BHP (for now) moves people in the group it covers *above* the expansion FPL and in its uniquely high Medicaid max income. no reason to expect DC or other states will not go further to cut costs. crucially, BHPs don’t include crucial Medicaid benefits such as long-term CSS and transportation.

haven’t heard much talk about this, so maybe I have the wrong read, but I think there is a huge risk of Medicaid expansion states ditching the expansion in light of OBBBA and instead finally taking up ACA BHPs and moving people into them. 25K people to be kicked from Medicaid at the new year in DC.

hawking a regurgitated Ownership Society to a country full of people who have to spend six days on hold for the remote chance of speaking with someone who actually works at their health insurance company and is not a eugenicist chatbot is really not gonna hit.

Pepper-sprayed Berwyn family rattled after getting caught up in federal blitz Southwest Side politicians condemned Saturday’s pepper spraying and the federal sweep of Little Village as β€œstate-sponsored terrorism” at a news conference Sunday.

Arianna Sofia Veraza and her parents were driving to Sam's Club for milk, eggs and diapers yesterday when they heard helicopters and horns blaring yesterday. They had turned around to leave when a federal agent pepper-sprayed them through a car window.

also, even as an ACA hater myself, I have to say that 40% claim comes from a dime-a-dozen right-wing think tank that can’t actually back it up.

A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Her husband told her that detainees at Broadview had to get up at 5am to get in line for one bathroom. He often peed himself. One time he had to wait until 2pm to use the bathroom. You could only use the bathroom once a day. He said the agents would beat you if you used the bathroom on yourself.

He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.
