I like the composition in the street scene. I know you’re known for buildings and landscape but your narrative images are v good!

Lime Finishers, an early warning that next Tuesday we have Professor Liz Laycock from Sheffield Hallam University talking about the degradation of building materials, with a focus on stone. Liz will explore how finishes are likely to be a climate responsible approach to decay - Stone decay 101.

Detail of a cream coloured stone carving showing two hands clasped in prayer, fingers broken at the tips. A carved ruffle of fabric is around each wrist, and each hand has a different bracelet; the bracelet on the left hand has a wavy inscribed pattern and appears to be made up of multiple long beads or segments with smaller beads between them. The gown underneath shows small ties holding it together in the centre front.

On the tomb in Albrighton, Shropshire, Frances Giffard (died 1558, wife of Sir John Talbot died 1555) wears different bracelets on each wrist. I can see faint traces of yellow paint and suspect that this part of the effigy was once gilded. A tiny moment of #ChurchCrawling joy. #ChurchMonuments

There’s such hypocrisy around this. Construction is the least unionised sector of the economy; entry level pay is poor; safety is a work in progress; job security is nil; and - as if by magic - productivity is flat-lining! Rayner needs a thinking cap not a hard hat.

Tsktsk. We also insist on being transparent about travel costs as expenses so the client has the chance to save - when are you nearby? Can we lift share? Clients must genuinely commit to reducing carbon emissions. Pretending this is not a shared problem is how we got in this mess!

I admire how carefully this decision is being taken. I’m wavering in my own mind. If only our palliative care provision was solidly delivering the comfort people crave to live their whole lives in peace and dignity. Thanks for your care and courage Jess.

Agree. Like many surveyors I studied at Clarence Street. Three years to gaze and admire - still not enough.
