Slowly making progress on the digital implementation of my #boardgame Amalgam. #indiedev & #gamedev is a slow process - but I am having fun learning along the way.
My friend PaweΕ is starting to make some animations/art to hopefully start getting rid of the placeholders.

I've tried out the little lessons in the chess.com app which seems pretty gradual and not too overwhelming, but they limit how much you can do at once without paying :/

Yeah, but I guess I would need the patience to get good in the first place in order to have a chance at winning the fast chess lol.

Anyone else really *want* to like #chess but is just far too impatient...among probably other things.... #boardgames

Another update on my #indiedev progress.
Without knowing the rules, it probably just looks like a bunch of gibberish, but I promise I am making progress :)

Remember, kids. Game design is
57% art
28% science
69% faffing about thinking about other things
11% scrolling social media
32% arguing
16% tears
48% math
Took 25 years, but I got these down EXACTLY

Been working on cleaning up code mostly to make everything work together a little more as expected. Still have a lot to do, but it's starting get some more progress. (basic movement/attack/ability logic is complete minus the Void amplification for each ability) #indiedev #boardgames #gamedev #Godot

Thanks! This was informative. Also, it was nice to see the description you linked.

Nice seeing the progress on this! If you ever need a playtester, feel free to reach out! I'd probably be a low learner but I'd be more than happy to give it a shot when I can find some free time.
29.12.2024 21:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
How do you go about communicating who should avoid it - can you elaborate?
While I agree, especially during playtesting and such, it's quite easy to communicate this, but on a more broad spectrum I'm curious how this is accomplished.
29.12.2024 21:17 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0
I feel like it's sort of like studying for a test - if you get excited about the system of how you study and take notes, you inadvertently end up studying the material without being interested in the material.
Not sure if that makes sense at all or not lol. Anyways, best of luck! (2/2)
29.12.2024 14:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Yeah, I get that. I sort of do that with things as well.
Sometimes making something that requires 10x more effort than the actual thing will be what motivates me to do the said thing...

I'm sure some people have a positive opinion of gamified "Todo" apps, but honestly for me, it seems like another chore in and of itself to keep up with the app, rather than a whiteboard or paper list of things to do.
I'm a huge fan of lists too.
That's just my personal take.

This looks quite fun!

Random thought:
The more I look at the word "queue" - it's quite a strangely spelled word...

A quick overview of the board game.
I have an abstract strategy #boardgame in the late stages of playtesting, available free on screentop.gg and tabletop sim -working on a standalone app.
Would love for you to check it out and/or come by and say hello on our discord server!

I'm not used to the character limit of this platform - I tend to be a bit long winded trying to explain my thoughts. I find myself constantly struggling to fit my replies into just one post.
27.12.2024 08:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Why the need to write "calm down" - I thought I was simply having a pleasant interaction/conversation. Your reply without the first two words would have sufficed.
I wasn't trying to start an argument but simply sharing my thoughts - and it seems you agree. π

And even helps me learn things quicker through experimentation, and often is able to explain things to me I didn't even know I needed to look up.
I don't think it's an end-all, but I think it does provide a valuable resource, as long as it is used correctly and at opportune times.
26.12.2024 17:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
For example, me, as a hobbyist creating code for a game project-I get stuck on implementing logic sometimes where I am able to use AI to help me implement it. Of course I know the code is likely very flawed, inefficient, and possibly doesn't even work - but it helps me work towards a solution (2/*)
26.12.2024 17:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
That doesn't mean it doesn't have a place. I think like it was mentioned earlier, it's just another tool.
I don't think AI should be implemented in a lot of the ways that it currently is, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't provide a valuable tool. (1/*)
26.12.2024 17:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
Yeah, those are some solid points.
26.12.2024 13:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Yeah I was sort of in the same boat, but the farther along I get, the more I would love for it to be played by others (hence the digital adaptation) - but it just adds so much work to it for sure.
But I definitely like that mentality/frame of mind when it comes to creating.

π²βοΈ Has anyone ever thought about making a satirical board game about ongoing issues?
One of those where each character such as "John Smith" is obviously x, y, or z in real life...and the game just makes fun of a whole situation while also being quite spot on about the current situation of things?

an illustration of a canada goose being a little anxious weirdo, naruto-running and yelling at who knows what (i'll tell you what: in the full unfinished illustration he is yelling at a toddler in a bathing suit crying and holding an ice cream)
