Waiting on Brigid! Let's see if she passes over Berlin with her cow. In case you didn't know, the ribbon is called a Brat Bride. Brigid is said to bless these as she passes over the countryside. The Brat Bride was then used to cure illness.

You know, I have seen this movie twice (ages ago) but I had totally forgotten about it until now. It's actually a weirdly comforting film - I must check it out again. Thanks for the reminder!

One of the earliest references to St Bridget’s Cross speaks of its power to protect the house and its occupants from fire, as recalled in the burlesque poem Hesperi-Neso-Graphia (1735 ed., p. 8)

Hey everyone! I know it’s a regular Monday in January, but just think – in a couple of weeks it will be the start of spring. According to the Celtic calendar the winter will finally be behind us🌼🌱. Let’s prepare and take stock of where we are currently at.

In the old Celtic calendar, the year began on Nov 1. By that rhythm, winter is already giving way, and spring arrives on Feb 1 with Imbolc.
Even in the cold, new life is stirring. Not pressure, not a reset, just quiet promise.
Four more weeks, and the light begins to return.

An old man with a cane in a chair is silhouetted against the fire. He is telling a Christmas ghost story to a group of adults and children while a giant ghostly knight leans on the mantlepiece, listening.

Today, Daniela and I went on a long walk to the Alter St. -Matthäus-Kirchhof in Berlin to visit the graves of the brothers Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm. I hadn't a clue until recently that they were buried here! We left a candle and some nuts as the graveyard was bustling with squirrels.
