You laid there in the hospital bed, the machines secured around you.
My eyes filled with tears, and my heart broke open as I ate the last cookie you made for me.
I combed your hair – and accidentally pulled too hard.

You held washcloth filled with soap, and cleaned the dirt off my skin.
You wrapped me in a towel and gave me a hug.
And I knew you would always love me.

When I was a little girl, you gave me a bath.
You plopped me in the tub, my toys floated around me.
We smacked the bubbles with our hands, and laughed with our hearts as we shared our in-joke: “peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!”
You washed my hair – and pulled it too hard.

My older sister died suddenly last week. Her last 48 hours they were keeping her alive so my sister could donate her organs. My last morning with her, I was her hands, face, neck and lower legs. (Not her feet! She always hated having her feet touched!)

Current mood.

Trump may have won an election, but he has not won the battle for our nation’s soul. The only way he does that is if we stop fighting back, and that will never happen. We will resist, we will expose, and we are already preparing for the fight ahead.

"If we have only one choice to make today, let us choose to love, let us seek love in all aspects of our lives. If love really is the truth of our existence and the truth of God, then may we not aim to meet the minimum requirements of love; rather, let us love to the point of tears."

If the lowly are going to be lifted up,

if the hungry are going to be filled with good things,

it’s going to be because God’s people

listened to the call of of the Holy Spirit

& responded & acted,

embodying the love of Jesus in practical, life-altering ways.

The widow who gave her money.
Jesus declared she gave all she had, but Jesus was throwing shade. We are not meant to think we are the widow in this story. We are the institution: called to care for the proverbial widows not take money from them.

It is quite the fragile god who needs political power to preserve and enforce their will.

It is quite the powerful God who is born in poverty, partners with the poor, washes feet, heals the sick, advocates for the oppressed, is unjustly killed and still changes the entire world.
