I grew up in the 50s in a little town called St. Marys, founded as Marienstadt by German Catholics. There were 3 Catholic grade schools and only one public school. The teachers were mostly nuns from the local convent. Catholicism was like the air or gravity— always present and taken for granted.

Where did you grow up? I, too, am a recovering recipient of a German Catholic convent education. Was it perhaps a little town in northwestern Pennsylvania?

Trump’s toastmaster blathering not withstanding, the optics of the meeting of all the leaders of Europe is terrific. It’s the world vs Putin. Too bad it included Trump, but they have to counter Putin’s infuence by outflattering him in order to shift Trump’s talking points.

If Trump is going so hard pushing paper ballots it must mean they’ve figured out how to cheat with them.

Who’s the pariah now? Lie down with dogs, wake up with the entire rest of the free world uniting against you.

If Trump is letting his inner real estate dude come out more and more, how is he okay with how ugly it is to see these god-awful vehicles and all those doughy personnel in their faded drag-ass jeans all over town? Slightly worse than “broken medians” (whatever the hell those are).

They are the government. This is blatantly unconstitutional as it violates free speech.

When people are under duress they go even harder with what they think works for them. Trump is furiously trying to create a narrative that bends reality to his
will in advance of the meeting. It’s so embarrassingly obvious he’s freaking out.

The point may be to normalize seeing troops in the streets, but I’m not convinced a longer range strategic move like that is within Trump’s capacity.
