I served in multiple authoritarian countries. One common thread that I witnessed first-hand is that when autocrats assault their own citizens, their first response is ALWAYS to claim that the victims were guilty of "attacking" the state. That's exactly what DHS/DOJ does.

Thank you, And I learned that not acknowledging that there are profound differences in individuals on the two ends of a spectrum disorder negatively affects those on one end. And I will always advocate for finding a better way.

I’m sorry your journey has been so difficult. Ours was challenging too but in different ways. There are so many layers of Autism. Acceptance & inclusion are important, so is getting appropriate services. Here in the US insurance covers some, school districts can provide All or None of what is needed

It sounds like you have had experience with great therapists and in highly resourced situations, not everyone is so blessed.

Hmmm… the deaf community took a different view. One of the very strongest advocacy groups in the nation has a platform of inclusion and community. Their Universities are stellar examples of self segregation as self care.

You think a vague all encompassing term that requires extensive explanation is keeping diagnostic overshadowing from happening? Or time spent assessing/ identifying doesn’t lead to incuriosity? since every doctor has to code what they are treating already why not make it useful shorthand?

Because physical disability has come a long way in the last 50 years toward inclusion and understanding. The ADA was a hard fight and so much good has come from it. Neurodivergence is just beginning to fight for acceptance and understanding. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Change is hard.

Your mood, emotions or attitude have nothing to do with your Autism. How you are able to Regulate, Communicate, and interact with others generally Interpersonally is part of your autism. The number would be indicating how much or often you needed accommodations, not a set does or doesn’t.

Do you know the difference between a C-2 spinal injury and a L-2? Or if I say quadriplegic or paraplegic do you know the difference?

And no system will ever be perfect because people aren’t perfect, no complicated problem has an easy answer. But we need to do better.

That is not accurate. Many people have weakness in muscles that a casual observer knows nothing about. It may not be total paralysis but medically significant.
If you look at DSM they have a list of categories that describe autism. The numbers fluctuate and some categories would be N/A as needed

We don’t need to say more than autism to them. The basic identification stays Autism. The letter/numbers are for clear communication with those who need to understand like teachers, therapists, etc. taking five minutes and paragraphs of explanation to each service provider when a code could say it

And the Numbers are not permanent, at the beginning of our journey in Autism my son would have been ASD S-3, C-5, R-3, I-5.
Now he is ASD S-1, C-2, I-2 +ADHD

We then have Autism S-1, I-2,
Or Autism SCRI-5 or Autism C-2, I-3
This is useful to teachers therapists and parents being able to quickly communicate in emergency situations. All still Autism.
