Tommy Robinson is backing Reform candidate Matthew Goodwin. And Goodwin won’t distance himself from the former EDL leader.

🧡 Who is Matt Goodwin, Reform UK’s provocative far-right candidate?
Goodwin was once a serious academic warning about populist extremism.
He has since morphed into something very different.

I've written a new blog - Where do you start the story of climate change?

This blog lays out the argument for why climate baselines should not be taken from the industrial revolution, and why the science needs to get past its fixation on attribution.

The UK government didn't want you to see this report on ecosystem collapse. I'm not surprised | George Monbiot It took an FOI request to bring this national security assessment to light. For β€˜doomsayers’ like us, it is the ultimate vindication, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Please spread this far and wide, as stories don't get much bigger than this. When the government blocks even the intelligence services from telling us we're heading for environmental catastrophe, you know we have a problem. A very big problem.
Thank you.

Friends at #COP30 please keep an eye on the chatter about solar geoengineering. It's being pushed through without proper deliberations or thorough analysis of the myriad risks it poses to planetary stability. Precisely what the fossil fuel industry wants to avoid accountability. #ClimateActionNow

What if dinner was public infrastructure? A Scottish charity wants to reintroduce state-subsidised diners for allβ€”potentially a big ask in the current political climate.

A charity is gaining momentum pushing for state-subsidised diners to be reintroduced across the UK to improve access to affordable, healthy, and climate-friendly food.

Not everyone is convinced, however, that there's a chance in the current political climate.

Being an academic is like carrying an armload full of balls. Sometimes you pick up new balls and add to the pile, but most of the time other people are putting balls in your pile. Eventually you start dropping balls and then people get upset with you. But no one can hold all the balls at once.

ABSTRACT
Populism of the radical right is strongly associated with climate change denial and opposition to climate policy, but we lack understanding of why these two phenomena are linked. This article tests two alternative explanations presented by extant literature. A structuralist explanation argues that the link is spurious, as both are caused by perceived vulnerability to structural changes in the economy. In highlighting that the ideological nature of radical right populism is antithetical to climate policy, an ideological explanation posits that any apparent effect of structural changes on climate policy attitudes is mediated by radical right populist ideology. We present data from an original survey administered in Australia, Germany, Norway, and the United States that is designed to test the two hypotheses against each other. Two different structural equation modeling analyses provide greater support for the ideological explanation than the structuralist explanation.
