Actors have passed the torch with characters since the beginning of acting as an art form. Sure, in a lot of cases it hurts, but it's crazy how folks are willing to just let a character fade off because the actor passed away.

If I remember correctly, the author hated the pitch and shut it down. I think the pitch diverted too much from the book, which isn’t much of a stretch considering Ghibli’s adaptations of Kiki, Howl, and Earthsea.
