There are so many policy / tax settings that are applied to other industries and sectors which would provide a huge boost to the creative and cultural sector if there was a genuine desire by govt to support creatives. We need to value the arts.

The turn away from green and indies is interesting and I’ll leave it to those with a more nuanced understanding of politics to unpack what happened to cause that shift.

I suspect the increase is less about being happy with labor and more a reflection of concern about Trumpian style agendas being enacted.

I think being scared of loosing funding from donors, and fear of a repeat of Brandis is part of this terrible decision (except - oops they’ve now lost a major donor…)

Why Did Australia Abruptly Ditch Its Venice Biennale Artist and Curator? It took only one week for the country to find a reason to disqualify Lebanese-born artist Khaled Sabsabi.

The dropping of Khaled Sabsabi and Michael Dagostino as Australia’s representatives at the Venice Biennale is so wrong. These thoughtful, generous, inquisitive and challenging voices need to be heard now more than ever. Without art that challenges us we will never grow as a society.

The amount of male commentators who are showing their privilege and sexism in the reporting of Sam kerr’s trial is horrifying but not surprising.

I also had a bit of a chuckle about that - more apt for house construction than something as significant as ACMI.

This has to be in the running for the most Australian quote in news reporting.

Back home after the #CBSydeny2024 conference. Apparently I missed a visit from our neighbourhood wombat. Thankfully it didn’t chomp too many plants and didn’t discover the veggie patch.
