controversial opinion: i like magic: the gathering even tho the choices being made right now aren't my favorites. it's still one of the best games ever made and designed and i've made so many incredible friends because of it. it's the capitalism that's bad, not the game :3

That makes sense. I dont personally think the Mono R deck is great in a vacuum as it's currently constructed. It needs a large % of vivi players for it to perform well, and the community has been underplaying the deck relative to its WR, maybe because Mono R is overplayed.

Am I crazy though or does it seem like challenge players have just not been playing the deck as much as its WR would suggest? Regardless, even if its play numbers are down, the deck is extremely format warping.

How many prereleases have you played? I'm on 3 and about to go to 4. I've enjoyed the gameplay enough to go to all my usuals, but by the second event, I definitely started to feel the small set. 2HG even more so.

2HG on Friday night had half the attendance of EOE 2HG and the competitive top heavy prizing event I just came home from normally has 16ish and we only had 4 today.

I dont agree with the reasoning, but the reasoning is sound. There is still an active RCQ season going and some people can only invest in 1 deck...like it or not, they don't want to ban in the middle of a season.

2 Vren is also a meta call that's been very good for me for many of the same reasons as Acolyte. (4 toughness, removal spells = more blockers/threats, etc)

It's an Enduring Curiosity effect that can't be Annuled (some locals bring it in when they shouldn't), it's a good Lifelink wall for red decks that turns your removal spells into additional blockers and it has 4 toughness, so survives Nowhere to Run against Pixie where Curiosity doesn't

It's dubious to think of Qarsi as a 3 drop because you can't consistently count on having BB by turn 3 with this manabase, and I don't want 4 Starting Town because I want land 4 to be untapped as often as possible. This deck is skewed a little for my local meta. Acolyte accomplishes a few things...

I personally don't understand how anyone can want to play a 2 mana 1/1 in a format full of Burst Lightning, Torch the Tower, Nova Hellkite and Fire Magic.
