Fancy an unconventional vase? This was made from paper porcelain slathered over the top half of a balloon when it was in a slip form. And it miraculously survived high temperature (1300 degree Celsius) gas firing!

This was one of my favourite sake cups made last year, using 4 glazes and gas fired at 1300 °C. Was attempting to achieve a wood fired effect and quite happy with the outcome!

I still find it really interesting that ceramics / pottery making is an art form where the maker does not and cannot have full control over the entire process. There must be a willingness to let go at some points, and certainly at the final stage where you have to leave it somewhat to the kiln gods.

Spent the most of last year familiarising myself with porcelain clay. This year i had a leg operation and stopped pottery for a few months. When i started on it again, this was one of the first pieces i made - a flat rimmed porcelain bowl. For pasta or soup for the soul. (Hey that rhymes!)

Loaf is all you knead.
