As someone who regularly deals with MPs, I personally think Starmer the human rights lawyer is long gone in favour of Starmer the careerist politician. Under his watch Labour is abandoning human rights and international law.

I'm also looking into claiming carer's allowance, as even though I too thought that I am not a full-time carer, I'm certainly providing the required 35+ hours of care.

The best advice I can give is to get a GP referral to the Public Health Nurse, if you haven't done so already. They are a wealth of knowledge and support.

A carer visit a couple of times a day to gives meds, prepare food, do some light cleaning and provide companionship can take off a huge amount of pressure.

Also, they should be entitled to meals-on-wheels but the availability of the service may depend on location.

Your loved one can avail of home help even if they're not at the stage of requiring help with dressing/showering etc.
