07.02.2026 08:42 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A slide showing information about the lacebug Catoplatus fabricii. There is an image of the species (a small brown bug with mesh like structures at the edge of the abdomen. The text on the slide reads A medium sized species of lacebug which is strongly associated with Ox-eye Daisy, Leucanthemum vulgare. The thorax is rather narrow behind the head, and lacks the meshes on the margins found in other lacebugs. The third antennal segment is the same width as the fourth. A very scarce species in Bedfordshire, with only one recent record. Should be looked for where Ox-eye Daisies are found, especially in dry, sunny situations on calcareous soils. Adults over-winter in moss close to the host plant.
A new species added to the Bedfordshire bug slides, with the lacebug Catoplatus fabricii, a rather lovely creature brilliantly found and photographed by @markgurn.bsky.social last year. See all the slides here www.flickr.com/photos/runne...

This is the height of ecological illiteracy and shows how wannabe zookeepers have taken over UK nature conservation. Evidence for native status of these species is incredibly tenuous; releasing them into one of our most ancient & irreplaceable ecosystems would be crazy.

Looking at the last flowers of Red Campion today and this little bug appeared.
It is Dicyphus globulifer, a species found on Red and White Campion throughout Britain.

17.11.2025 15:29 β π 29 π 6 π¬ 0 π 0Developers WANT gradual release of new homes, so demand always outstrips supply to keep sales prices high. They use:
1 Land-banking - to prevent competitors building
2 Slow build-out - to keep demand high
Reforms should focus on this dynamic, plus skills shortages, and minimising slow wet trades

The Government has tabled 67 last-minute amendments to the Planning & Infrastructure Bill.βΌοΈ
Rushed through with little scrutiny, itβs a shambolic way to reform the planning system.
It creates confusion, sidelines science and leaves nature dangerously exposed.

Don't care about the massive damage done to native ecosystems by the constant release of vast numbers of invasive pheasants for shooting?
Maybe you'll care about catching Lyme disease instead.
A small, brown bug on the fabric of an insect net. Its head, with eyes on protruding stalks, is lower left.
A stretch upper saltmarsh sward, consisting of a mix of grasses and fairly low-growing Sea-purslane. The bug was swept easily from this vegetation. However, it was not found where Sea-purslane grew in dense, shrubby, single-species stands.
On yesterday's @kentfieldclub.bsky.social meeting at Castle Foote on the North Kent coast, I was really pleased to find the rare ground bug Henestaris halophilus in numbers across the saltmarsh. Habitat shot has notes in alt text. #bugs #truebugs #Hemiptera #KentNature @britishbugs.bsky.social
